If it’s your lower back that is hurt, you may have a hard time building glutes. Otherwise, I have never had sore glutes like when I would do lunges with a long stride. That, and deep back squats, placing the focus on squeezing glutes on the way up in particular.

Extra deep squats,extra deep hacks,extra deep leg presses,lunges.
All of these have always worked great when done properly with proper form and FOCUSING on the muscles you’re targeting.
