How Strong Should I Be to Enter a PL Comp?

OP, i believe there is a saying: “45, 45, 45”. If you can do the freaking bar, then jump in there. The faster you get a meet under your belt the faster you can gain information to help you become much stronger than you are now.

I was overwhelmed (in a good way) at my first meet by how strong some of those lifters were. When I saw guys with 5, 6, 700 pounds on their backs it made my weight seem so much lighter even though it might have felt heavy for me at the time. When you SEE someone move that much weight it just makes it seem possible for you to do it one day.

In addition to that, all of the competitors I spoke with were handing out advice left and right whenever anyone asked for it. The powerlifting community is very interesting in that even though you are ‘competing’ in the same event as someone they are still willing to help you.

sparknotes: Get into a meet as soon as you can

OP
one way to think about it is: if this is you first comp then provided you don’t ‘bomb out’ (i.e. fail to register one of the three attempts as good) then these will ALL be PRs. The other thing to realise is the referees are independant, with no axe to grind; as such when you get the white lights you KNOW the lift is legit.

Go for it!
Best of luck and let us know how you go on.
