there are quite a few boxers/MMA fighters where i live, and i’ve run into them on the street…they usually notice the mild scar tissue on my eyebrows, and get the f&&* out of my way when i’m working(as a cop).

glad you think this way.
think about it this way.
a fighter trains to fight,he makes the choice to fight and then he goes home.
a criminal a real thug and not some little wanna be that you run into every day, they live the life, they fight not for fun, not to compete not to be better, they fight to live.
they have instincts that no other fighter anywhere has.
you can be as big and as well trained as ever, you come across a “real” life criminal and he does not back down and you are dead.
this is actually how accidents happen, because you underestimate whats in front of you.
after all how can you hurt something that has nothing to live for and nothing to loose?

Keep telling yourself that. Rationalization, It’s not just a fancy word. I believe T-Nation did an article about it. Maybe you could look it up in between your next cobra ki self defense class.

You put them out and break their arm, throw them in a dumpster covered with garbage from the chinese place,
some people train because deep down they enjoy hurting others, some do for the sport or for fitness. Guess it all depends.
If I am not training or in a cage/ring. I take every encounter as a life or death situation, and I am trained to finish you. So you find me a criminal with that level of training and I probably know them, j/k.
It is all individual too much generalization. Everyone’s mentality is different
I am not a big guy; I have had experience in serveral disciplines. I know that whatever experience I have had means crap on the street-period. I visited and/or lived in places where you don’t look guys in the eye for any reason or you only dress a certain way to avoid detection. I used to think I was invincible and if the oppurtunity presents itself I could do something. Now as a husband and parent I only hope if something were to occur I could do something to prevent something awful from occurring.
Fact of the matter is, I’m not going to try for a double leg takedown on the street… I’m going for the eye gouge, nut kick, or bite and then sprinting my ass off to safety.
Sure, I can block now, and sure, I could snap your neck, pull out your arm and tear all of your leg tendons in a little under 15 seconds of scrambling with an unexperienced person… but that doesn’t save you from a knife, gun, or other guys…
everyone’s so tough on the internet.

…or the shortcomings of your lack of judgment.

Yeah.
I don’t blame the guys, though. It’s somewhat normal.
Problem is, the very idea of this thread (I think), was to show to guys, who reassure themselves that they’ll tear all the ligaments in your limb for 15 seconds, that in real life situation luck and extreme caution are much, much important.
A week ago, a teenager killed two students in front of popular night club in the capital of my country. Stabbed them in the back with 4-inch knife. A third guy survived. One of the victims was the goalie of the national hockey team, 21 years old. The attacker is son of local head of the administration. Spoiled 140-pound piece of shit. I’m sure on the mat he would have had his face kicked in…
Let the guys rest in peace.

Bulgaria??? I think I read about this on CBS Sports.

Unless you were participating in several McDojos, I think you are shortchanging yourself. Any training is better than no training. You can convert fine motor skills into gross motor skills if you have the kind of attitude that would allow it. Your training does not mean “crap on the street.” It may mean “little” on the street, but definitely not “crap.”
I do agree with you in that prevention is the best way to go.
