Practice vomiting on yourself at will. Who wants to punch, grab, or roll around with some dude covered in vomit? Now that’s street smarts!

And just to go off topic a bit. A word of advice from my experience to all you MMA types. For christs sake, if you ever get in a street fight, do not take the guy to the ground, and go there with him. All his mates will kick the crap out of you.
Firstly, why does he have mates and me no? Why is there this myth that BJJ guys wander the earth solo like something out of a dodgy 80s saturday evening tv show. When I go out, typically I am with 5 or 6 trained fighters. Why would they not step in if I was on the ground taking a shoeing?
Secondly, whilst taking the fight down will not be my first choice, if we end up on the ground then my BJJ will put me in a great position to ensure that I am on top and able to finish the fight or stand up quickly and easily and start soccer kicking and stomping.
Yeah but the difference is when you guys go out it’s usually to a samuri circle jerk so there’s not much chance of a problem!
Actually with the Brazilian’s it’s normally to Nando’s or a Churrasco buffet.

Oh, and one more thing- have you ever tried to take down someone when you’re NOT in the ring or enclosed area?
Enclosed areas tend to be loaded with other shit- a bar is packed with tables and stools, stores are packed with crap, a busy parking lot is packed with cars… not exactly the best spot to get on the ground.
On the other hand, if it’s in the middle of the street (i.e. outside a strip club in Newark, where one of my more ridiculous stories went down), good luck trying to get close to someone to bring them down if they don’t want to. Not impossible, but very difficult.
Good luck staying on your feet in a crowded bar with stools and tables all over the place. Especially if there is some booze in your system.
From your earlier point, as we train MMA as well as BJJ we specifically do train to get up from underneath someone. Also, we train to try and land on top when you fall. If an untrained person tackles me, they are going to get rolled over and land on the bottom.
All of the above said though, I fully agree with you. I don’t want to go to the ground in a crowded place. I certainly don’t want to look for a takedown in a crowded place. I’ve seen trained fighters KO themselves on the mat or ring going for a double leg. Try that shit on a hard floor and it’s no fun at all. That is why if there is any chance at all of avoiding a fight, I am taking that chance.
I don’t care if someone wants to call me a pussy or whatever. You want to fight me, we do it in a ring or a cage. The only exception to this is if I or someone important to me are in physical danger.
I have a real hard time explaining this to the macho guys here in Mexico but someone can be standing in front of me telling me screaming that my mother is a whore and my wife a slut, it doesn’t affect me in the slightest.
Me swinging at them doesn’t prove that they are wrong. It might however deprive my mother of her son, my wife of her husband and my daughter of her father either through me getting killed or me doing jail time.
That’s the problem with you MMGAY guys. You’re not crazy enough to survive the streets if you were really in them. You’ll never see it coming. You’ll be a victim.
OK, you go be a crazy macho street fighter, and maybe we’ll club together to send you some porn when you are in prison. Or have some TNation flowers put on your grave.
I’ll stick to training because I enjoy it and having a fantastic life with my family and friends.

I’m sure I have actually read that in a self defence manual somewhere. How freaked out would the mugger when your reaction to them pulling a gun was to start shoving your fingers down your own throat.

Unfortunate as hell, but he’s right about that last part. A few guys I used to know were absolutely devastating at spotting and suckerpunching people, then taking everything that they had. They didn’t care about size or training, and no one ever stood a chance against them. One moment a guy is walking by another, the next thing he would know was an emergency room.
One guy leads with a shoulder bump in passing and the guy a couple of steps behind him takes your head off.
Very effective.

It’s setups like that that unless you are trained to recognize them (which few people besides cops and the very experienced are) that will fuck you.
I’ve kind of switched my focus from simply just training the physical moves to trying to do more research on tactics like that. Oftentimes it involves two guys who set up in a specific area… I’m working on that stuff now.
All of y’all afraid of guns ever go to a range?
People can barely hit a STATIONARY target that is 7 feet away from them.
Any idea how hard it is to hit a moving target?
Go to a shooting range. Have a buddy throw a beach ball. See if you can hit it with a pistol while the ball is moving. That ball is a lot bigger target than any of you non-obese people.
Criminals aren’t at the target ranges. Most are idiots who don’t know how to properly aim. It’s spray and pray. (Spray bullets; pray that they hit something.)
Guns are only dangerous when the guy gets the draw on you, and thus is able to put it on your.
But allowing that to happens violates the principle of remaining alert.
If someone pulled a gun on me and wasn’t right up on me, I’d run like hell in a zig-zag pattern. It’s almost certain that he wouldn’t hit me - that’s assuming he even took a shot. Just don’t run in a straight line.
Plus, WTF is wrong with some of you people? Where do you hang out? If I got into a bar and see that it’s full of Mongols giving me funny looks, I’ll take the hit and GTFO.
Most of this stuff is mental rather than physical. Educate yourselves about the facts - not bullshit theories. And avoid dumb ass situations. IF it’s a shit hole bar full of druggies and dock workers, why even be in there? To show how “legit” or “hard” or “Bohemian” you are by hanging out at dive bars? LMAO.
^^^ Naw dude, it’s where I gotta go to get my crack

I’ve never been to a shooting range. It is exceedingly hard in NJ to do the kind of shit because of weapons laws, etc. (not to go to the range, I mean, but just the fact that guns are not regularly around me).
I’m trying to get there soon as possible… got a couple cops I’m trying to get to get me in their ranges.
I’ve always agreed with that, even though I always here that you’re supposed to just put as much distance as you can between you and the shooter.
I’d do the zig-zag pattern, I doubt that there are many people that could pick you off.

Because that’s the places I hang out. I hang out in dives because I like them because the guys are like me. I’m not against going to the occasional fancy bar in the city on weekends, but on a Thursday I’m going around the corner.
And besides that, my point in the initial post was that violence happens 1) in place where you wouldn’t expect it (such as the wrong fast food place or outside your gym) and 2) to people that are NOT looking for it.
If you can avoid stopping at the wrong fast food place, get me in on that crystal ball so I can get some too.

What kind of move would you use if Omar came after you?
If Omar comes at you, you bend over. That’s it. Zig zagging won’t do it.
anyway lot of truth here and bullshit too.

Yeah well I guess that’s some people. Some of the “MMGAY” (lol) guys who get into MMA are those type of people who sucker-punch other guys and take their shit.
Besides if someone bumps your shoulder in a bar, it’s usually not an accident. (in my opinion).
It doesn’t matter MMA guy, regular guy, boxer, BJJ guy…it doesn’t matter for any of that shit. It matters what kinda person YOU are. You can’t just be labeled like that…MMA guy n shit like that.
And I disagree with you’ll never see it coming, you’ll be a victim. Like before it depends on the person…if you are so relaxed and wanna have a good time…you will be a victim. but if you are like me and are a paranoid fuck whereever you go…we see the world differently.

I agree.
I find most people got into mma or boxing whatever because they got there ass kicked by someone and they’ve been in training for them ever since. The thing is if you’re always concerned/obsessed with defending yourself then you must be the “prey”…

That could be true, for the guys, that have trained for no more than 1 year.
But if you have spent some time training, no matter if it’s MMA-based, boxing or something around these, the way you see things about a possible physical altercation, involving you, will change (after you get over the “orange belt complex”). You don’t have to have a chip on your shoulder to be in combat sport class.
It’s like saying “People who hit the gym hard are doing it, because they were the fat slob/the stick figure in High School. If you are obsessed with training, you have problems with your self image.”
While it can be true for gym Joe’s that want to sport “ze sikspak”, preferably after 3 months of curls and protein shakes, go tell that to half the crowd in the Strength Sports. I assume (even if wrongly) that they train harder than you, they are stronger than you, and will be the first to admit that they got hooked up because of some cliche, but since then their mindset and motivation have changed.
I would say it’s the same with Combat Sports. Go tell my Combat Sambo coach that he “must be the prey” and he “would never see it coming”. Even if he got involved, because he “had his ass kicked” some twenty years ago.
Also you are not giving alternatives.
These streets you’re talking about - the ones that you can’t survive, unless you are born on their fucking sidewalk, I suppose - if you end up in a situation there (which means that you failed the first half of self-defence) how would you prefer to be?
Never having tried to punch someone before, or the opposite?
Obviously there are guys that fit perfectly the “MMGAY” type. But generalizing, not only the MMA-based training, but also other combat sports, based on attitude stereotype you have?
You are either trolling or you are A-grade douche bag material.

It is rarely truly random. Guys don’t just come in and shoot people. There are usually hard looks exchange, some shit talk, etc. That is not random.
If you talk shit to the wrong guy, he WILL pull his shit out on you. This is basic causality. That means the process is not random.
If a cop or other gang member cut in front of me in line at McDonald’s, I’d bit my lip and deal with it. Because I know that things will get elevated quickly if I say anything.
I once pulled into a gas station in a town called Shamrock, Texas. I saw the sheriff, who looked inbred. The guy worked the pump looked inbred. Both were obese.
I thought, “This is some The Hills Have Eyes shit,” and got the fuck out of there. I literally pulled in, took a look at them, and pulled right out and got on the freeway.
Had I stayed and wound up on a meat hook or gotten raped by obese retards, you’d say that was “random.” I’d say, “Fuck no. That’s what happens when you allow yourself to be near inbreds.”
Same thing with everything. If things look fishy, I’ll get my Big Mac elsewhere.
