How Much Fish Oil in One Sitting?

I’ve read (can’t remember where) that you’re:

A) Not supposed to take fish oil at breakfast time
B) Only have up to a certain amount at one time

As it stands right now, I take 2 Flameout and 4 cheap ones, twice a day.

Adds up to 59XX combined DHA/EPA.

Is this too much? Should it be broken up into more servings?

Thanks!

No, that seems fine.

Just for sake of discussion. I take:

2 generic SALMON oil (not “fish” oil) @ meal 1, 2, 3, & 4

then 2 Flameout @ meals 5 & 6

that comes out to about 4600mg combined DHA/EPA

How much is the optimal combined DHA/EPA amount? You’re taking a good bit less than I am.

Last time I checked, salmon oil IS fish oil.

Anyways, I take a costco brand of (alaskan salmon) fishoil. 5 softgels three times a day. Totaling 15g of fish oil, or 2.7/1.8 of EPA/DHA.

i’ve taken 15 w/ a protein shake as a quick meal replacement without any problems. some people are bothered by large quantities of it, everyone’s different. I definitely wouldn’t worry about breaking it up into more servings unless it was specifically causing you some GI stress.

I wouldn’t take any supplements that are not from this website, a special internet website, or whole foods (or a respectable health food store). I have a friend who had a terrible reaction to a grocery store brand. The supplement industry is not regulated, and many companies put all sorts of contaminants that can actually harm you in their products. It’s better not to take anything or pay a little extra.

i was making the distinction between store brand “fish oil” (your typical 180EPA/120DHA) and the store brand salmon oil (240DHA/160EPA)

I’m quite aware that a salmon is a fish, thanks.

I think for general health benefits the recommended amount is 3-6g combined DHA/EPA
