I said no way in hell to a 405. And I benches 335 at 17 as a senior in high school even though my form sucked horribly. I just don’t think Tiger looks the part of a 315 bencher but it’s more believable than a 405.
I was not referring to you specifically.
And I would be beyond shocked if he can actually bench 405. But he looks more or less like I did, and I dont think its too far off to assume that an adult man who works out, presumably with a performance coach of sometime, for several years now, and takes it somewhat seriously could bench 315
About “looking the part” (plenty of more extreme examples around, including guys who actually do look the part [but those usually post rep vids rather than max single vids, big surprise…] those two are actually some of the “buffer” guys benching 405 around youtube… Hmmmm.):
All a matter of how they got to their 405 max (training wise + diet to some degree) and their genetics and whatnot… Max singles don’t say much for certain about a guy’s physique unless they’re very, very high.

Yall act like 300-315 is a BIG bench.
For a 1RM…not so much.
The average couch potato I see benching can put up 245-250 or so for one.
You dont think someone who eats right and actually lifts more than once a month, could easily do 50 pounds better than that ???
Im curious as to what you guys think a grown man’s average bench is ???
You and I go to very different gyms then, 'cause the “average couch potato” in my gym is topping out at 185 or so for a few reps. Facts are is there aren’t alot of people putting up over 3 plates in most gyms.
This.
In fact, according to ExRx.net, the average untrained full grown man can max bench a whopping 140lbs.
Jesus.
Apprently they DO grow them bigger in Texas.
Perhaps the average couch potato down here used to play football in highschool or something.
The only people I with less than 200 on the bar are the skinny 14 year olds.
Just out of curiosity…how much would yall estimate the average guy to weigh ?
Down here Id say 220-240 or something, certainly not lean, but somewhere in that range.
You realize everyone is fat as shit in Texas right? My Iowa-born friend couldn’t believe the portions of meat in grocery stores in Texas and Oklahoma. You literally couldn’t find pound packages of steak.

Men’s Health ran an article and survey said the average bench press for 8 reps for the every day guy is 84% of his bodyweight of all gym goers. So at 185lbs that’s a bench of 155lbs. That’s typical of what I see in the gym.
HA HA, that shit is hilarious. That means the average guy my size only benches 210ish for 8? Surely the curve doesn’t hold linear for bigger guys?

its an ‘average’ guy though that means a guy who doesnt work out. maybe he has a bench in his basement he uses for 2 weeks every yeari during the summer. but thats it.
i honestly dont think the average guy off the street could bench 225 even once with good form.

Very true. If someone doesn’t workout they’re are generally no where near as strong as someone who does and those that can “hold their own” tend to have held a manual labor type job.
Wow, I work out with a bunch of pussies in my university gym which usually has about 100-200 guys lifting at any given time. Guys between the ages of 18 and 25, I would say 1 out of 20 will be benching 225, and 1 out of 100 will be benching 315 or more. I rarely see anyone with 315 on the bar and usually they will look pretty damn big otherwise they bounce the heck out of the bar.
I’ve seen one 405 bench there the 3 years I’ve been going. So when someone says 315 isn’t a big bench at all, I gotta ask where are all these teenagers benching 2x bodyweight?
