How Much Do You Lateral Raise?

I think I read that the west the most arnold ever did on it.

I train with 30-20, everyonce in a while I’ve swung up a 35 like 1-3 times.

Wow guys lot of liars in this thread.

you’re saying that if someone lateral raises more than you he’s a liar and you can’t believe him? Dude do you think 30-20 is such an achievement that if so many people are stronger than you they’re lying?
Exactly what i was thinking.

Like 75ish?
that’s cool bro and I get you, but I wouldn’t get into so much detail in this forum about usage 'cause people seem to be everyday less and less hardcore and will start to bitch about T.

sets with 16KG → ~35lbs

I didn’t hear anyone call you a liar, but you have to admit that is a lot of weight. You have to expect people to just check and make sure when you talk about lifting a lot of weight. I get it all the time and I take no offense. When someone says, “You’re a liar,” then is the time to get upset, but I think you may have been reading more into what he said than was there and got a little defensive.

First, that video was completely off topic. The OP states that himself.

Second, I’m not dissing bodybuilding. I’m just saying that when it is taken to that extreme it no longer looks good anymore. I’m sure that you already know that the goal of bodybuilding is not to just simply get as big as possible. I’ve seen many bodybuilders who are smaller than Cutler, but look way better. That’s my point.

That is the last post I am making about this.
I don’t do laterals. They are bad for my particular shoulder structure.

I do barbell and dumbell presses half way up only.
I do 1-arm dumbell leaning presses all the way up.
I will do 1 arm upright rows (only 1 arm)
And rear delt raises.

i bench 355, deadlift 435. I can not lateral 30 pounds strictly.

Also I wonder, when you do a lateral raise, do the arms rotate over forward or backward? Arnold talked about pouring (rotating forward) but a lot of people tilt the scapula back and rotate backward.

Alright I guess I’ll be the first to say it.

Put up a video of you doing lateral raises with 75lbs or more (with ‘really good form’). I don’t necessarily doubt you 100% just yet but that is more weight than I picture someone 195lbs is capable of (with ‘really good form’). Please don’t give the excuse “I was on AAS so I can’t do it anymore”. If you did 5 reps with 90 then you can still do 5 reps with 75 even if you aren’t on a cycle.

Currently, 50s for 8-10 reps.

Incline bench 315x5 (new pr)
squat 385x5
dead 405x13 (did it 2 days ago)

thank you that post bothered me this am, hey if it’s true great but 95x3 and 75x5…really? at 195lbs no less. i’m 210lbs and i go up to 40lbs but 25-35lb is the range i work in where i use my medial head, over that in weight and it becomes a upright row shrug thing.

What exactly is the issue with your shoulder structure, and what kind of form/technique do you use for laterals…

Most good lifter I know say that your pinkie should be upward during all the lift. And your body with a slight tilt forwards.

I began with them just lately, am doing them with 15’s 3x10. I really prefer dumbell upward rows 33lbs 4x10.

Squat 311 lbs, 140 kg
Deadlift 377 lbs, 170 kg
Bench 233 lbs, 105 kg
@ 168 lbs, 76 kg BW

Le,

 1. You are a big dude, so your numbers are believable
 2. he said he was 5’9 195, you are 5’8 240
 3. he said he bench pressed 370, and squatted 405 for 3 reps
 4. No one at that size and strength is going to be using 95’s for anything except maybe military press and shrugs

I am 15 pounds away from a 500 lb bench press and I wouldn’t even think about using 95’s. I’ve done 70’s for 6 loose reps but that’s as high as I go.

This dude’s numbers don’t add up my friend. So while I don’t doubt he may have used 95’s for something, it sure as hell wasn’t anything that resembled a lateral raise.

Agreed. Bullshit abounds. I think some of these newer guys underestimate the experience level of the people they are speaking to. I am also not seeing shoulder development on these other guys that justifies all of these claims either. Maybe some of these guys should back off from using in excess of 50lbs for laterals if their side delts are still lacking that much.

I have gone up to 75lbs for laterals back when I was using dumbbells instead of the plate loaded machine I now use…but I am guessing my shoulders actually LOOK LIKE IT.

LOL CC!

Damn dude, that looks official! hahaha
