Back in my wrestling days (damn, I sound like a grey bush) I could get 35-40, no problem. Of course, I weighed 135. Now, probably 15 dead hang to chin over the bar.
On a good day, 15.
Bad day, 6 or 7.
I don’t like training high reps so I do them weighted. Last friday I did +70 lbs for 4 reps, then dropped the 50lb dumbbell from between my legs and knocked out another 7 with a 20 lb belt on. I’m kind of stalled out on my progress, I may need to change it up soon.
Did 24 legit pull-ups yesterday, 1st week of January I could do 13. Trying to increase my reps by 2 a week from now on
I read this book called The Long Run by Matt Long. He’s a NYC fire fighter who gets badly injured and makes it back… any way, somewhere in there he talks about cranking out 200 pull ups. That bummed me out for a long time because I thought, no way could I ever be that strong. Now I realize he’s either not talking about regular pull ups or he’s just straight up lying. It’s a good book and he’s a really impressive guy but come on. I can do about 15 good form dead hand pull ups. I can do more chin ups (narrow reverse grip). I feel pretty good about that. Most guys walking around can’t do that.
16 yesterday, bw ~160-165
I got 15 yesterday bw 196.
I think everyone should give their BW when answering those questions. I’m more impressed by a 220lbs guy doing 8 than a 150lbs guy doing 16.
I’m 185 and I have a weird thing where I can only do 10 - whether I’m weighted or not. I run out of breath at 10, though I’m trying to breathe deeply throughout. I only do them from a dead hang. I don’t kip.

UMMMM…Have you heard of the bartendaz, highlandaz, calisthenic kingz or harlem sealz. Look them up on you tube. They do a lot more than 200 pullups and tricks on the bar (pullup bar too). I can do up to 5 in a set. Working to get this number higher @ 300+. My real weight is posted in my avi. I would post some of those videos linked but T-Nation doesn’t like you doing this.
