Well, I do… but a DE day should still be in effect a ME day.
If my max deadlift is 500lbs, I might do speed pulls with 225-315 plus bands/chains. If there’s only 350lbs of weight on the bar on the floor, I can still put all of my effort (max effort) into ripping the bar as fast as I can.
Even with straight weight, I can still lift 300lbs with 500lbs of force produced. If you apply anything less than as much force as you possibly can to that bar, you’re cheating yourself of making progress.[/quote]
thats what I get out of the discussions Ive followed along with . I remember something M-Meat said a while back . along the lines of …your bar speed is on target if the plates rattle at the top…something like that anyway . thats the weight vs effort that I shoot for .
yeah , why bother going if the goal is an easy day .

Those of us who use the DE method properly know this.

This might be one of the most awesome posts on this site.
I’ve never even thought of it…like I said before all my warmups are not slow contorlled? When I’m squatting and I’m warmuping up…at lockout 275 is jumping off my upper back. I stay tight as possible and explode on every rep, every set for warmup. Usually only 3 reps per set for warmups.

Those of us who use the DE method properly rip the bar off the floor as fast as we can.

Brick, what is your best deadlift and how much progress have you made in the last 3 months?
Got a question boys…with regards to lifting fast specifically…like I said all my warm up sets are very fast…like I said before when I’m squatting 275 at lockout the bar is jumping off my upper back.
BUT I don’t really do speed squats SPECIFICALLY…just in the warmups it’s all speed. But I’ve been doing quite a bit of vertical jumps, broad jumps, etc etc.
Is this just as good to increase explosive power? Perhaps maybe not exactly for powerlifting (maybe it is) but for sports and what not.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Whatever works for you man. In my experience, jumping and all its variations GREATLY help your pulls. Same concept as pulling for speed, jumping will develop your speed off the floor by jacking up your rate of force production. The only problem is, speed pulls have to be done because that is the contest lift. The weight has to be in your hands in order to get maximum benefit out of speed work. That being said, weighted jumps are the shit.
Any jump where you create a reaction force from the ground is best I think. Depth jumps, reactive jumps(depth jumps holding dumbells, dropping the dumbells before the second jump), seated box jumps, and, my favorite, knee jumps with a barbell. 225 for 2 gave me a 750lb deadlift. But I stil did speed pulls too, and the jumps after.
Youve got to switch it up every once in a while, and jumping is a great variation. Speed pulls should be the main focus though because contest form needs to be established and speed of that particular movement needs to be developed. My 2 cents anyway.
Thanks Storm! Yeah I do the jumps now before my workouts (movement efficiency first) to get fast feet, or maintain my fast feet (for sport) and the jumps for explosive power.
I like to do reactive squats, or jump squats…what are the knee jumps with a barbell 225x2? Is that the same thing as jump squats…I load jump squats anywhere between 15-30% of my max and jump. Sometimes pause jump squats, and sometimes rhymthitic jump squats…of course on these you only go 1/4 squat and explode upward into the air.
Perfect though, thanks a lot for the answer man that’s just what I was looking for if it helps or not lol.
At the same time I will include the speed pulls, I don’t think I will do them every week though…but they will be in rotation in a 3-4week mini cycle. Or I’m even thinking of doing them on squat day before squats…I don’t think 50% speed pulls for 8x1 would hurt anything…
Do you?
