How Many Cold Plunges

Hi Ellington, Just wondered if you think there is an optimal number of cold plunges someone should take in a week - e.g. only after a workout or three times a week or daily etc. At the minute I’m doing them daily, mainly just to see if I can! Thanks, Jeff

If you are trying to build muscle, then three times per week. Wait 30 minutes after your workout. If your goal is maximum fat loss, then daily would probably work best.

To quote Tyler, these are “intense”

Hi Ellington, Another question on these please. I’m trying to figure out the best time of day to do them. An 8 minute plunge leaves me cold to the core. If I take them in the late evening on non workout days I’ve found it can take 4 - 5 hours to warm back up - which I guess is good. However they also leave me incredibly sleepy - which I guess is also good but I don’t know the optimum way to balance the two. Any best practise? Thanks, Jeff

Jeff: Keep doing what you are doing. Warming back up is burning calories and being sleeping is a follow-up to losing fat and building muscle. You are right where you should be.

Jeff,

how are you doing your cold plunges?

in a gym, your own bathtub, barrel outside?

dan

I have a huge bathtub at home. I measure the water temp and use a timer to make sure I’m consistent. They’re tough!
