Not bad, but would be more hardcore if you had an Imperial Walker and a couple of ravenous taun-tauns in the background. I’m assuming you live on Hoth?

With all due respect to your dad, I must say that doing that was very disrespectful to his coworkers.

What has hardcore was he held his breath the whole time.

BWA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
I’d say I’m slowly becoming progressively more hardcore…though, whether I really am training to a ‘hardcore’ standard & or level is only something I’ll ever really ever be able to honestly judge when I’m much, much older, in retrospect.
With regards what I think constitutes ‘hardcore’, I’d say it’s about 70% effort & 30% end product.
Andy Bolton (alledgedly DLing 600LBS first time out), is of course awesome, though it’s not what I’d call ‘hardcore’ in the fullest sense of the word. I suppose you could say, it’s a lot like the relationship between confidence & bravery. The former can be very impressive (though It’s tough to say exactly how easy or hard it was to achieve), the latter is pretty much always impressive because it entailed a highly uncomfortable effort.
As the OP of this thread, I was curious to see the direction it was going to take. I haven’t given my input, but am following. Here is what I need to say.
I first want to mention how I think that yes, people who train with setbacks/tie ups are hardcore- they take it seriously without doubt. But as mentioned before, I was looking to make this a motivational thread related to the gym and fitness. Some of the posts I found were relevant to this, while others weren’t.
I am sure that many of the people on this site have “something about them” that really makes them stand out from their friends and family. Everyone take it to a different extreme, but undoubtedly, I’m sure most of you think differently, and are “on your own” in the sense that the people don’t understand your obsession with lifting and nutrition. I want us all to stay motivated and stay on track and show you that you aren’t alone in striving to be your best.
The second point I want to address is people saying “you can’t call yourself hardcore”- I opened the thread by saying this is not a one upping thread. I feel like you took the point of this thread the wrong way. The thread was meant for people who train hard and have a dedicated lifestyle to show others what they do- maybe you can learn something from these “self-declared” hardcore people.
I big portion of this thread is focused on results. I feel that results are NOT necessary to be hardcore, but if you are hardcore (or think you are- maybe you are not) then you SHOULD have some results. People should be able to tell you AT LEAST workout consistently. There shouldn’t be a question of you going to the gym if you think you are hardcore.
Here are some of the things that I do that I think can be deemed hardcore. No, I am not living in a tent hunting my own food. But I know that I work harder and dedicate more time to this than 99.9% of college kids.
The only carbs I eat are rice and potatoes. I ONLY eat them around my workout times. I will not go out to dinner with my family, because I want to cook my own meal. I only go out with them for Chinese food because I can get steamed chicken and broccoli.
I go to the gym religiously, despite working full time and commuting an hour and a half to work there and another hour and a half back.
I cook all my food. My own meat, fish, and chicken. I do not eat anything of a box or bag. I steam my own broccoli and cauliflower and brussel sprouts. The only thing I use for taste is seasonings. I do not eat sugar or anything processed.
I don’t drink often. Only on vacation in the summer. Maybe once or twice a week during school. That’s still less then 95% of people at the party school I attend.

Good post. I think your point was pretty clear to start with.

I was brought up old school, never to talk about myself or what I do, unless someone asks a specific question. Then, keep it short, simple and humble. Otherwise, it’s considered bragging, and my father would give me a beating for that.
I already follow the logs of people on this site who I consider “hardcore.” I have learned a lot from them over the past six years.
With the exception of Stu, not one of them has posted in this thread.

Do that in shorts and yes, you will be hardcore.

What contest are you preparing for?
edit: if you aren’t preparing to step on stage in the next couple months, have you actually noticed that cheeseburger or occasional 7-11 burrito holding back your progress?
There are some people on this board with good size who continue to make progress without seemingly living in constant preparation for their dream vacation to ancient Sparta. It makes me wonder how many people here confuse [needles] self-deprivation for true dedication.
I mean, I know that we are all going to look back on our lives while laying on our deathbeds and wish we ate more boiled chicken breasts in our prime - that shit’s a given… but still…
Thread reminds me of the 4 cowboys, who decide to settle down for the evening around a campfire. 3 of them start going at it, saying they are way more hardcore than the others.
Cowboy 1: oh yea?! how hardcore are ya?!
Cowboy 2: I killed a bear once with a rifle!
CB 1: yea? Well I killed a bear with a spear I made from scratch!
CB 3: You guys don’t even know what hardcore is! I killed bear with nothing but my bare hands and a pocket knife!
Meanwhile, the first 3 were puzzled by cowboy 4’s lack of input, so they all looked at him simultaneously. He still said nothing, just occasionally stirring the embers of the campfire…
with his penis.
Imperial walker roaming background? …check
Vampire on roof? …check
X 2 packs of ravenous wolves? …check
x 2 pissed off Yeti? …check
Much more weight on bar? …check
Head on fire? …check
Whoa…

Hahahahahaha. That. Is. Awesome.
I’m glad you took my wolf comment not to a whole new level, but to a whole new galaxy.
Definitely agree that it’s simply one of the best images ever posted on this site. One of the T-Nation writers should find a way to integrate it into their article.
