How Fast is Your Workout Pace?

My recollection is that recent studies support the idea that 2-5 minute rest periods are best for maximizing hypertrophy, especially when using multi-joint movements. And they are definitely best for maximizing strength gains.

When i lift weights, i lift weights…
And when i do cardio, i do cardio

Anything weight related is usually in the 1.5-2 hour range. But it’s rare I deviate away from full body or PPL. I use a lot of 80-85% max weights, and now I gotta actually rev up the engine to get a good groove going for my workout sets since I’m stiff as hell most times. I also have been working on Olympic lifts so some of the time spent is me just trying to hone in form.

Anything involving conditioning is usually 25-40 mins give or take.

Great thread. A challenging (faster) workout pace is fundamental to all our muscle-building programs. It adds a VO2-max component and increases the overall anabolic effect.

Arthur Jones knew this 50 years ago. When Arthur trained people, it was all about quality contractions and a fast workout pace.

As fast as I can get to another machine. I’m usually the only one in the gym so that’s pretty fast. I set the weight on all machines before I start.

This is Fundamental due to engaging a majority of muscle fibers at Differing positions during the contraction range of motion as well as different movements engage new populations of muscle fibers.

This is why back to back to back exercises of the same bodily area exhaust all available muscle fibers possible.

Rest between body areas trained allow the heart rate to subside. This is good for the cardiovascular system, however this in no way alleviates the pressing need for true cardiovascular training.

Arthur knew this 50 years ago, as the undefeated Miami Dolphins lifted and ran when trained.
This is the best way to get in shape if a drug free method is desired.

Now if T-Nation would see the need for a carb drink full of vitamins and minerals

Stimulating intramuscular biochemical and biomechanical growth signals is more critical than workout pace.

Pump a muscle with key nutrients and emphasize mechanical release of mTOR, while maintaining a fast workout pace WITHOUT sacrificing qualified and quality contractions. That’ll build muscle faster than anything else we’ve tried.

We’ve never made such a drink. I don’t see your point.

You’re somewhat incoherent. But if I’m understanding what you’re stating, I agree, your suggestions are some ways to increase fiber recruitment.

Again, you’re a little incoherent. If I got your point about cardio, I don’t agree with your sentiments.

Yeah, we find him incoherent most of the time! Once a month or two he provides a nugget of sanity

Are such comments really necessary?

Only if you want to be understood.

Carb loading has long been used by athletes the world over because it simply works! Also, weight training is an anaerobic endeavor. Therefore, stored glucose Is needed for such activity types. Minimizing glucose’s role is most notably carried out by snake-oil entrepreneurs peddling the significance of protein.
Once adulthood is reached, protein needs are easily met. Bodybuilders in particular are susceptible to believe the shady propaganda of protein pushers.

Years ago, Dr. Darden published reports of a meal substitute called “Perfect Score.” This was a meal replacement consisting of 60 % carbs. Of course this drink was doomed to failure because sugar (OMG) was contained within.
A carbohydrate meal replacement drink with appealing marketing could be a sales success. If kale drinks are a big sales success, them a watermelon drink :cup_with_straw: should be gold,

If I pretend to get your point, will you stop commenting?

Yes, spoken like a true founder and CEO!

Bye!

How does your metabolic conditioning program look like @atp_4_me ? I’m thinking of making a routine.

I was asked to stop commenting by the CEO! Sorry!

Only to me and only regarding one snarky, incoherent banter of yours.

Of course, you knew that because you’re back making unnecessary snarky comments.

Go ahead and make your points.

Would anyone like Ellington Darden to write a new 4-Week Metabolic Conditioning Challenge?
