How Fast Can You Deadlift 20,000 Pounds? Try this Challenge

Might do my bench and squat beforehand but I have nothing for the next few days so should be good.

@T3hPwnisher how’d you record the whole thing? Just with the phone?

I know this might shock you hip kids, but I use a video camera, haha. Had it since 2010.

Good one for a first try. At 31 minutes I’m guessing you had some long rest time between sets. Judging by the video you spent about 3 total minutes deadlifting and 28 minutes resting.

A suggestion… Try letting go of the clean rep scheme and break it down to whatever rest time will allow. Instead of burning reps as fast as possible, try slowing down and create time savings through short rest time between sets. I kind of think the ultra fast reps can create a form breakdown(and unnecessary extra fatigue), like how your shoulders are hunched before and during your lifts. I’ve been finding (after doing this for a few weeks) my energy holds out better when I reset and focus on good form for each rep. It may be a little slower, but I can make my finish time better by taking less rest.

Think about this… Do you think you’ll get done faster by doing speed reps? Or will you get done faster by taking 2 minutes of rest time instead of 3 minutes…or 4 or 5?

Do a big set to start… like 10 to 15. Take a minute rest. Then try sets of 6. Then 3.

Good shit. Try it again and you’ll find you do better knowing what the previous time was.

And like I said earlier…I think doing this weekly has had some positive effects on my overall deadlifting strength and mental toughness, which had a lot to do with gym performance imho.

Hah!

Nice thing about a cheap video camera is you don’t care if you drop it or cover it in chalk.

I do that to my phone anyways lol

I mean, I’m pretty sure I could’ve gotten it in much less than 30 minutes if I really went balls to the wall. I never do high rep deadlifts, and going in beltless I figured I’d take it easy the first time around. My shoulders roll forward because I’m much stronger in that position for whatever reason. You have some valid suggestions about the rep scheme, but I highly doubt I’ll be doing this kind of challenge in the near future. This was more like a “screw it, im sore but ill give it a try” kind of thing. Nonetheless it was a great workout and thanks for creating this thread. looking forward to seeing the others that give it a try! yes @guineapig i mean you :stuck_out_tongue:

We should just redo the 405lb deadlift challenge and see how much people have improved.

I would be very pleased with myself if I can do 10+ EMOM singles with 405lb by April.

No no. I’m not talking about weakman competitions. Strongman, sport of REAL deadlifters. Or maybe Crossfit. Pretty sure the people in the box know what a real deadlift is.

Attempted the challenge lol spoiler I failed (because it wasn’t sumo lol Jk I have different excuses).

Was harder than I thought it would be. I think it was fatiguing energy systems I didn’t know I had

TLDR here but full write up in my log:

Set up with all my usual equipment. Wanted to beat @T3hPwnisher’s time. Pulled 120kg for many low rep sets needing 76 reps. Started with 5s then 4s then forced to do 3s. Lost count one set in lol

Decided to go off the timer like if I could stay on track it’d be fine. Half way thru slowed down and knew things weren’t gonna go to plan. Kept going cos I knew I was close but once 11 minutes passed my heart wasn’t in it anymore. Finished with a higher rep set and thought I got it. Ended up coming out to 69 (lol) when I needed 76. If I knew and kept going probably would’ve got 13 mins or if I counted the warm ups same thing/time but it is what it is

Would not recommend challenge out of 10 lol

Without sumo you are just a powerless guinea pig.

This is like a dick swinging contest and the OP is trying to educate John Holmes about length vs girth.

remember that time, like a week ago, when I told you this would be the case? lol. Sometimes I know what I’m talking about. Just sometimes. That being said, really good work. I’m impressed.

So I saw someone suggest an 8x8 set at 315. That’s the most appealing set/rep scheme I’ve seen, I think that’s gonna be my approach. 315 feels light in my hands, so I feel like that wouldn’t really start to get tough until the 5th set or so. 8 reps isn’t enough to really push me to fatigue for the first few sets. Seems like a really good balance.

I should be recovered from my last deadlift session by about mid-week, so hopefully I can take on this challenge by Friday.
