That’s an odd comment from someone with no video posted and a very short training log.
I’ve seen videos of about half of the names at the top of this thread doing serious work. Most of us have multi year training logs with video of us lifting too. I think you’ve got six or seven guys posting here with deadlifts over 600, with video proof shared on this forum. Vince P is a world class deadlifter.
But yeah, most of us do enjoy talking about lifting. We’re on tnation for a reason.
Just did this, 225 for 20 and then 315 for 10 sets of 5.
Total 20,250 in 16:57.
I didn’t follow all the rules. I did tng for some sets but for the majority I pulled dead stop. I also pulled them all sumo cuz thats just how I roll and also cuz it allows more room for my nut sack. Since I’m only 3 days out from my vasectomy my boys really need the space so I figured I would cut myself some slack(pun intended).
And I didn’t use straps so that’s a point in my favour
I took some video but haven’t uploaded it yet, instead here is a shot of the aftermath.
You did an extra rep too! I bet you only had to do half reps from all the bounce you got on those touch n go reps. Those metal plates bounce like 8 inches.
That’s pretty damn good, but among the other violations did you check if non-matching plates are allowed? Going to assume no. Also that one chilling way over on the right… probably cheating somehow. Leverages or something. Or it’s glued to the floor and right next to the bar but wasn’t actually being lifted.
Well I didn’t want to come up short on my total like some other people have done haha and ya those tng reps were definitely cheating bouncy sumo dead for the win! Haha
I actually found the dead stop reps easier when doing the 315 sets.
LOL I’ll go with blood. And thanks man, big praise coming from you! Your blog inspired me to do this (brute force and ignorance)
I cheated and went touch and go. Got it in 19 minutes. Everything hurts. I havn’t been in this much pain in a long time. Not a good way to get back to deadlifting.
His time is really good, he’s stronger than me, and in better condition. I think the 8x8 approach is better than the one he took, so it’s possible I’d come close, but I kinda doubt it. I think I’d shoot for EMOM sets to start, and then start resting more after the 5th set. Or earlier if necessary. 8 reps shouldn’t take more than 20 seconds, so 40 seconds of rest per set to start. Then at least double the rest for the last 3 or 4 sets.
For me the 8x8 was a decent balance between cardio and strength. I wanted to go for at least some hypertrophy and avoid it being a full on cardio session with 225lbs. My erectors are absolutely destroyed today, but in a good way, so I’d recommend it.
interestingly enough, one of my good friends pulls with a completely straight back and i mean its so perfectly straight you’d think there was no weight on the bar ever. He snapped himself up a few weeks ago pulling sumo incredibly enough, and he was the last person i would expect that to happen to just based on how straight his back was. For whatever reason i feel zero pain in my lower back when i pull that way, maybe i’ll get snapped up later on who knows
I feel like a lot of people that refuse to ever let their backs round under any circumstance are setting themselves up for a massive downfall the day anything goes slightly wrong with their technique. Dave Tate used to call this “chaos training”, and it’s a worthwhile thing to get strong in weak positions.
