How Fast Can You Deadlift 20,000 Pounds? Try this Challenge

Alright I’m going for it this weekend. 8x8 with 315lbs. So for me that’s heavy enough to not be pure cardio, but anymore than that and I feel like it would become tremendously difficult. 8x8 already sounds brutal tbh. I’ll report back here if I’m not paralyzed.

11 minutes to do 308 for 65 reps. I had to abandon my plan of 40 in one go, because at 30 reps I realized I could either get 40 in one go or 65 total, but not both.

I was dead after this, and this was doing it “the easy way”; I can only imagine the hemorrhaging you people doing it the hard way will go through, haha.

Random question: How do you get 308? You live in the US and use pounds for your training… do your collars weigh 1.5 lbs each?

And nice work, by the way. Looking like a beast as always!

Combination of pound and kg plates. 45lb bar, 2 45 plates, 4 35s and 2 7.5kgs.

Much appreciated dude.

Of course you have a mix of lbs and kgs LOL I should’ve known better.

I also forgot to mention your outfit—the ONE MAN ARMY shirt was very appropriate and you definitely backed up that claim!

Thanks man. It helped me get into the spirit, haha. And yeah, all my bumpers are random assortments, since I just buy whatever is cheap at the time.

Just watching that made me feel tired. Awesome stuff. I’ll be giving it a go tomorrow with similar weight but im going to need to split up the reps.

OP:

This is a great idea and its always to good to have certain parametres in this kind of challenges.

But do you understand that the way you downgrade the TnG DL causes amusement/irritation. Because that stuff does not really matter. Dead stop deadlifts are not superior to the their TnG brethrens - just slightly different. If a guy deadlifts 5x700lbs nobody asks “touch n go or deadstop?”.

Anyway - waiting more stuff, besides to the T3hPwnishers awesome performance.

I know it’s your challenge, and you are being very particular and strict with the rules, ie no touch and go, must be to a full stop etc, but…

That only equals 19980 lbs.

Does this mean that you will have to disqualify yourself?

Like I said…anyone can do this any way they want. [quote=“bobeschism, post:91, topic:238590, full:true”]

Anyone can do this anyone they want and have fun with it. But how can one measure his numbers against others if everyone has his own idea of what constitutes a deadlift? Like I said earlier…a deadlift is lifting the weight from a dead stop with no stretch reflex. That’s not a nebulous concept. It’s why the deadlift is called what it is.

I won’t speak for Pwnisher (whose strength I’m very impressed with) but I’ll bet he’d like to see how his numbers change if he focuses on full stop deads. Actually that might be a good way to settle the debate about energy expenditure on full stop vs TnG this thread has started.

I know touch and go deadlifts have their place. I do my snatch grips deadlifts TnG style, but for this challenge there’s a set of basic standards.

and I know I’m 20 lbs off. Close enough.

Not really. That would be a bad bet.

Edit: Also, if your goal is to eliminate stretch reflex, you are going to have a LOT of time between reps. Even deadstop, the reflex hangs for some time. It is why the second deadlift in a deadstop set tends to go up easier than the first.

The internet: where you can see a 415-pound deadlifter lecturing guys that pull 200 pounds more about what a “deadlift” is.

Also, it’s absolutely fantabulous that he can’t square the idea of touch-and-go deadlifts as legal in his challenge, but he’s fine with being 20 pounds short of the cited “20,000 pounds” number.

Tomorrow I’ll participate in the challenge by doing my usual Monday workout of 6 deadlift singles at 405. I mean, I guess I’ll be a few pounds short of 20,000 but I’ll just say “Close enough” and be good with it.

I would suggest a more pertinent question might be: How can one measure his numbers against others if everyone has his own idea of what constitutes 20,000lbs?

You could always do it the same way that the person who you want to measure yourself against does it.

Edit: If these sort of questions are really burning a hole in you, a strongman competition is probably the closest thing you’ll find to a controlled, level playing field on which to find the answer.

Which, funny enough, will often allow touch and go.

well guys I managed to make it back in one piece. I did 8 sets of 8 reps with 315lbs taking 31 minutes in total. Definitely longer than what I would’ve liked, but it was a lot of fun nonetheless! I felt like my head was going to explode after the 5th set and was just thinking to myself there is no way in hell I can finish this challenge. First and last sets below:

Brooooooo nice. Now I wanna do it. Might later today just need to figure out someway to set up a timer I can see and a video at the same time. Also can phones recorded for that long? Also my counting is pretty bad more than 5 so… am worried

Yea man I totally recommend doing it, as long as you dont have any hard workouts scheduled for the next day lol. The fact that @T3hPwnisher completed this challenge in 11 minutes is humbling to say the least lel. You’d probably have to tweek some display settings in your phone to record a whole session I’m not sure.
