I have never trained my forearms directly. I always say I may do so eventually just to see how they will develop, but while I used to use straps initially, I haven’t worn them in several years.

I don’t use straps, never appealed to me. If I start doing shrugs I may acquire some but until then I don’t think I can have enough grip strength.
I remember you mentioning that somewhere as well, I was also kinda shocked to read that.

i do do skullcrushers. however i try not to use a weight that i can’t do at least 6 reps with.
that being said, i think a majority of my tri growth comes from heavy close grip benching, and strict form rope pulldowns.
i also think i used to use to much tricep when i did regular bench press.

The HS machine I use for shrugs now only holds 450lbs, but I do not use straps for that weight. I also didn’t use them when the other machine I used had 540lbs.
Mind you, I had to work up to that because at first, I did need straps to hit that weight.
My point is, no one is curling 90+lbs dumbbells for alternate curls with tiny little forearms. To get that big and that strong REQUIRES strong forearms and in a lot of people, those forearms grow along with the biceps or through all of the other work required to get that big.
If your own are lagging, you may need to train them directly.
I personally don’t have that problem.
Ok, fairly serious question for Mr. MMF. Since you started posting you’ve always been larger than most however in the recent avi pic you look consderably larger, what did you change? How much weight/muscle have you put on? What’d you drop or add that made the most difference?

I do direct forearm work randomly through the month, mostly grippers (CoC) but who knows how much that’s contributed to the present size of my forearms? They may only be a little bit smaller if at all, if I never did the direct work.
They may be akin to calves in that way.

Exactly. I trained mine directly for years (until I developed chronic wrist pain), but they still remained small. I stopped training them directly, and over time improvement had been made while progressing on OTHER bodyparts that required extended time gripping the bar.
The opposite was true for calves. Lots o’ squats didn’t do shit for my calves. But regular calf raises (especially flatfooted, barefooted calf raises with really heavy weight) really brought them up.
I like how after all this time, that was the first discussion we’ve had about training I think!
No big deal, I hang out in GAL because I’m pretty close to perfect and have nothing left to learn anyway.
