That’s true, I guess I didn’t think of that. Oh well fuck what other people think if I want to go pro I’ll end up looking like I obviously do gear so why be insecure about it I guess
No offense but have you googled the pictures of what the pros look like in their teen years… Not saying you won’t make it but its not much different than saying you want to go pro in the other sports. You have to be genetically gifted beyond belief to make it big time. Now if you just want to compete in some shows go for it. Just saying…
Was about to tagyou in @flipcollar, glad to see you’re busy replying
nope, it sure doesn’t.
There’s a ton of variety between machines. the angle at which you push the weight determines the actual effective load. A completely vertical leg press with 1000 lbs is not going to happen for almost anyone. A nearly horizontal leg press with 1000 lbs could be done by a 12 year old kid.
But yea, nobody gives any shits about what you can do on machines, ever.
yea and that’s another thing. If you’re training for physique/aesthetic purposes, why in the hell are you working in such a low rep range? on machines, for that matter? I wouldn’t be doing ANY sets under 8-10 reps on those. I also wouldn’t be using knee wraps, I’m not sure why you’re doing that. Knee sleeves I would understand, to protect the joints. Going super heavy with knee wraps on a machine is truly ridiculous. The whole purpose of using knee wraps is to make the lift easier. you know what else would make it easier? using less weight, lol.
no. you’re a gym rat. you get to call yourself a bodybuilder once you’ve competed. right now, you’re just a dude who lifts weights. you’re not a powerlifter unless you’ve done a meet, you’re not a strongman until you’ve done a strongman competition. that’s how it works ![]()
oh, give me a break. 6’ isn’t that tall. I’m 5’11. quit whining.
nah. i mean, it’s awesome that you’ve made the progress you have. I saw your pictures, that’s a hell of a change. I know first hand what kind of work that takes. I’ve had a similar journey, I started at 125 lbs, and now I’m competing on an international level in strongman. I get it. but let’s pull back on the ‘pretty damn big’ thing. Pretty damn big at your height would be a lean 220-230. So you’ve got a ways to go. Right now, you’re basically a pretty average bodyweight at your height. Fortunately, father time is currently on your side, you’ve got a lot of good years ahead of you to reach that level.
If you were my training partner, or I was coaching you, I would suggest that you put in several more years if solid, dedicated, smart training before considering AAS. I think you can do better than what you’ve done so far. Before investing in drugs, invest in quality coaching, and diet. If that takes you to a place where you feel you have real potential to have a pretty special physique, then make the leap. Otherwise, the steroid life kinda sucks, and I wouldn’t suggest it.
just for fun, here’s me at 18, weighing about 120-125 at 5’11:
and then now, at 205:
I mentioned this to you in an earlier post and I’m happy to see @flipcollar mentioning it as well. I really can’t stress this point enough; there are some really smart coaches out there who will evaluate your training and diet for you and help you get where you want to be assuming you’re committed to do the work it takes. Sometimes an unbiased opinion is the best thing.
I just wanna be nostalgic about the fact that one of the earliest interactions you and I had with each other was over this very point, haha.
well shit, I’m embarrassed I don’t remember what it was. what was the context? did I have the same opinion then?
It was on a “rate my physique” post, back when you could actually submit a number (for reference of how far back it goes). I’ll be goddamned if I could find it again, haha. We were discussing someone being a powerlifter, and at the time you held an opposite viewpoint, in that one could be one absent competing in a meet, from what I recall.
@aj2957 ^^ THIS
Yeah, you made good progress. I’m not involved in stage comps, but I’m sure you’d do well in Physique/Classic Physique as you are now - why not do a few shows before you consider AAS?
i have a sneaking suspicion that I changed my opinion around the same time I started competing…
Damndest thing really, haha.
@flipcollar haha I get it. I’m just under 6’4. The whole height versus short lever arms bull shit is just that.
To the op - you’ve done a great job building size to where you are. But you have a long way to go. And to agree with most guys here - you should try to compete before you decide you want to pursue a career. Competing is terribly difficult, awful mentally, physically, and emotionally. I qualified for NPC nationals. It ain’t easy.
Drop the low rep range. I squat no less than 12 reps. Usually in the 18 rep range. Some leg press workouts I get over 100 - yes 100 - reps a set.
You can do so much better without drugs for now man. When you get there we will be here to help you. For now - pound the food and hit the weights.
But if you reverse those numbers you’re only 4’6, I’m still 5’5 thus I’m actually taller then you, it’s all an illusion
I’ve enjoyed reading this thread. Some of the advice has been top notch and motivates myself to train and diet harder. OP could compete in physique and he’d be looking to get leaner than his latest picture so that drops him down into the mid 160s which is awfully light. Use this year to grow stronger and aim for 200lbs, then re-evaluate from there, probably cutting some fat to get to where you want to be, you’ll appreciate the weight you can lift when you’re a bit heavier - even though I understand that isn’t your goal, nor mine - being relatively strong is pretty cool.
