How Do I Use Creatine?

I’ve never used the stuff, but recently bought a small tub to try. I expected there to be a dosage recommendation, but all it says on the label is to take 1 scoop per day, or as directed by a physician.

I could do a Google search, but I’m looking for someone who has real experience in using creatine, and not just some textbook clinical yadda yadda.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

I saw this title and was like fuck! then I saw you posted it, and I was like fuck!

personally i use 3grams before workout and 5grams post workout with my protein shakes. I do not ‘load’ or alter the dosage, i just use the same amount until its gone, then wait about 6 weeks and add it back into the supplement program.

I’m not sure if I’ve become desensitized to its importance, but I just throw 5g in my pre and post workout shakes and call it a day.

My guess is you bought Biotest creatine?

The scoops is a standard 5g scooper. 5g is a the standard serving/measurement for creatine. What I usually do is take creatine with a bottle of Gatorade. The powdered stuff from the supermarket. Creatine, to my knowledge, needs a insulin spike to be able to transported into the cells hence the Gatorade.

No need for the loading phase. Just take 5 g/1 scoop 15 minutes before working out.

Some folks load for two weeks taking 10g a day. Other folks will argue that loading is not needed. Either way take it for 6 weeks total and then take 4 weeks off. The recommended dose is 5g but most get by just fine with 2.5g a day without loading. Plus it is cheaper that way.

VERY CAREFULLY!

I use it around my PWO window…

5 g before, 5 g during, 10 g after. That’s all.

Actually, a recent article on T-Nation suggests that a daily dose of 10grams is apprpriate and absolutely suffcient. It also talks about how high single doses of creatine may cause your tendons to dry out, which I am not really convinced of. After all, it’s only one single article by a med student…

Personally, I’ve always used an old-school approach to it (0.3grams per kilo of bodyweight) which would in my case be the range of 30grams during the loading week (7days) and then a tenth of that dose for the subsequent 5-7 weeks (3grams flat). During loading, I’d split the dose around work-outs (half pre- and post WO in some apple or orange juice).

A little more fine-tuned approach: If you know your bf% subtract it from the overall bodyweight for calculating the dose.

Strength gains are the most noticable effect, especially with the very first cycle.

Hope that’s of any help.

wait, this was a serious question?

Be careful though, you might lose all your gains if you go off it.

But that is only with the intramuscular injections right?

You’re right, but what if his body stops producing creatine?

Yes, JF.
And by the variety of responses, it looks like there is no standard.

Thanks for all your replies, guys.

That’s not his concern! He should be worried about all that protein he’s eating. It will kill him!

Then he’ll have to go on a creatine pump. Like a insulin pump but more anabolic.

The picture better work!

There’s only a million articles! Take 5g with you PWO shake, many people take it everyday regardless of wether they workout.

there was a creatine article on here a few months back

ID, I dump a scoop in my post workout shake, Surge Recovery, after every workout. I only use it then.
