Proper Use Of Creatine Monohydrate

Can anyone tell me how to start off using creatine properly? I am a first timer at creatine and am about to start a mass building phase which I want to incorporate creatine into. What are the proper dosages? I am 174 pnds 5’8"…

I have read some articles that recommend a loading phase? Any input on how to start this off would be greatly appreciated.

I’d only load if you are gonna be taking it for a short period of time. But if you plan on using for awhile, 3-5 grams daily should be fine. I take it w/ my Surge post-workout. Many people think you should cycle on and off, but I’m not too sure. I’ve heard JB say that he takes 5 grams daily and does so for many months w/o stopping. Sorry I don’t have a definite answer for you. But whenever I take it I notice gains in strength/size. Most do. So whatever method you choose, I’m guessing you’ll like the results…provided everything else is up to par.

5g per day mixed with post workout shake, but don’t expect to grow if you aren’t getting enough cals in during the rest of the day. Worrying about suplements before dialing in your diet is putting the cart before the horse.

I have actually brought my diet up to par using T-nation diet programs so I am literally eating like a pig. My next step is creatine to give me another boost  I am planning to use it for a 3-6 week phase then get off all supplements for a week and let my body relax. A loading phase recommended for this, or 5gs a day will cut it? What is the best liquid to mix creatine in. I came across an article that said to take down creatine with water then drink orange juice 20,40 mins after to give it a jolt. Any thoughts on that?

Check out David Barr’s article, “Dangerous Creatine” for more info on proper use of creatine.

He recommends 3-5g/day depending on body weight. He also says that some times heavy loading can stimulate greater gains, but not for all people.

Finally, he says that research has shown that it is best to take creatine post workout in water/salt solution in order to increase uptake into cells. Workouts will hyperhydrate your cells so the salt is necessary for more water (and the creatine) to be taken into the cells instead of pissing it all out and waisting your money.

Hope that helps.
