How Competitive Would I Be?

Well, those PR’s I gave were from the last competition I did. They were a few years ago after I lost most of my weight. I haven’t done serious cleans or snatch much since.

This winter/spring, I hope to get some strongman competition training in and then try a competition or two at least after that.

If you are up for a road trip come to Kokomo Indiana. I have every peice of strongman equipment you could imagine and am always happy to help others in the sport. We train 3-4days per week and the strongman stuff is always available. PM me if you are interested.

Big Al, I have a friend who is a strongman, and he says it is ALL about the events, as he got better at strongman all his gym lifts went down because he spent far more time on the strongman events and only did injury prevention workouts in the gym, sure do it and have fun, and you can do olympic lifting in tandem as you will use these muscles in strongman. ps MY BUDDY CUT 80LBS THIS YEAR AND AT 38 IS STILL GOING STRONG ! ( pardon the pun!)

I’m really looking forward to getting started. I finally got ahold of the strongman contact I have. Apparently, they take a while off every winter. They’re getting back into it in early February. Is that common?

Until then, I’m just continuing to lift like normal. Last week I pulled 605 from 18". I was pretty happy about that.

If you’re anywhere near KC, there’s a pretty good strongman community around here. Check out KCStrongman. There’s a mix of pros and amateurs, but they’re all really good guys. I’ve trained with them off and on for a couple years. They’ll have all the gear necessary and will help you with technique on just about every implement. And they train all year around. The held the MO Strongest Man in an airport hangar in Belton earlier this month… it was 5 degrees in the hangar. Check out the forums, and I’m positive someone will offer to let you train with them. Good luck and have fun!

Just wanted to report that I had my first strongman training session yesterday. We did a little bit of everything: log C&J, Circus DB C&J, keg lifts, farmers carry deadlift, and stones. I got humbled a bit, but got helped out a lot too. It was good times. I’ll be back next weekend.

I just wanted to update that I just did my first competition. I took first out of 10 guys. Overall, I had a great time and am looking foward to another competition next month.
