How Big is Too Big?

more of a drug issue to me than a size issue

I’m not willing to take tons of insulin and GH that’s required to get Olympia-level big

That has to be photoshopped! My mind cannot comprehend his mass. Lol.

Being too big would be relative and subjective. Relative in the sense that, from an aesthetics point of view (if that is your goal, or a performance point of view if that is your goal), that the excess mass takes away from what it is you want to achieve. I would say that it is subjective in the sense that what looks to be too big for one person is not the same as another. If someone truly wanted to be as big as possible, then I would imagine that they would feel that you couldn’t be too big.

Now I don’t to get flamed too much for this but in a previous life I was indeed, too big. Past a certain body-size/mass my health suffered/suffers. Being asthmatic I would always be puffing on an inhaler and be completely breathless despite training daily; I would sweat all the time; I would snore, sometimes even when awake, and I would be uncomfortable. I felt bloated, lethargic; I felt big and large, but I didn’t feel well, and my quality of life suffered. At the time I enjoyed the size and strength, certainly. I got a lot of attention, both positive and negative.

I believe that for me, I do not have the genetics to get beyond a certain body size and remain healthy and I think that this is a determining factor in terms of longevity. I am lucky in that certain muscle groups are round and full and I have/had the ability to grow to the point where people stop and take notice, but my frame is pretty small. I have wrists and ankles like a girl and a small bone structure. So, although I now weigh not much at all, I still look pretty muscular.

Genetics are important in this game, and it goes beyond the ability to grow tissue.

^Brutal.

haha. I like it. I think this place needs some well-dosed aggression.

Goddamned right them lunges were brutal, I’ve seen smoother movements on an elephant in a porcelain store.

Shit even fat fucking bears are able to ride a motorcycle without crashing shit up.

I am going to hell for laughing at that. Well played.

I just went back and watched the video. I will be the first to admit that I give the guy shit pretty often, some of it undeserved. However, I have to say, those lunges were absolutely horrible. I really couldn’t believe the lack of flexibility portrayed in the video. That must have been pretty embarrassing to have been outperformed by the women.

I know quite a few guys who run insulin and GH and will NEVER be Olympia big. Have to have the genetics too.

Yeah. Olympia-level big isn’t something that magically happens the second you take insulin and GH lol.

If it were that easy, there would be gorilla-sized guys walking around all over the place.

indeed, no one wants to admit that they probably have shitty genetics.

for me personally, i would say that being a lean 220 is probably as big as i would ever want to get.

I have small joints and just dont tihnk i can put on a lot of mass while still looking good, feeling good and being healthy.

something like 200-220 at 5’11" for ME is pretty much my aim while having solid vascularity and definition (around 8-10% body fat)

Yep, just like if sterons magically made you huge.

This probably wasn’t what you fully meant, but I wouldn’t call the inability to get Olympia level big “shitty genetics”.

What are you talking about, Bauber? We all know that if a beginner started taking steroids, he’d look like you overnight. Duh.

Shitty was indeed the wrong term, was kinda more trying to say most people seem to like to believe that in their lifetime the only thing that will stop them looking like Dennis Wolf is drug use.

thought that was what you meant. Obviously most of us here have a skewed perspective on steroids on the opposite end of the spectrum from the general public, but it’s still amusing to me when someone points at a Ronnie Coleman, or even a Ray Lewis, and says “steroids”. It’s like, no fuckin’ shit “steroids”, but those dudes were basically genetically engineered to excel in their chosen fields, and they busted their asses to make it happen, just like all of their peers did. Steroids were the ace up the sleeve.
