Household Foam Roller Alternative

I’m not being original here by any means, as I’ve seen a number of people doing this. But, for those who don’t have a foam roller and really need some deep tissue work, primiarly in the upper back, I found that a tennis ball works great. I put it on the wall and lean my back against it, moving my body around so it hits different points. Painful as hell, for me at least, but it really loosened some things up. Curious if anyone else does this or what people think if they give it a try.

i bought a 4 inch diameter PVC pipe for less than 1 dollar… works great, although its probably more painful since its harder

I have used both. Tennis balls just seem to get get “that spot” pretty easy. On the PVC pipe, I started with a few towels over it to get used to it, when I did, took 1 off, then none. Some areas still scream for towels for me, like the TFL.

I just went to Wal-Mart and picked up their thickest swimming pool foam tube, which is about 4 inches in diameter. Works great, and cheap too.

Nothing beats the theracane!!! I also reccomend the book, The Trigger point Therapy Workbook.

Super pool noodles work great. And cheap too. Put 3 golf balls into a thin cotton sock. Good for self massage or get somebody else to do it.

when i use the foam roller, I feel no pain at all. Does this mean Im doing it wrong for sure?

I use The Stick with great results.

Doesn’t mean it’s not working, but at best you are just getting the benefits of blood
circulation. With the tennis ball and the theracane you can hit trigger points (knots ) which will be really tender and should hurt a little.

Pool noodle with steel pipe inside for more firmness.

geez people, foam rollers aren’t that expensive. $25 including shipping, lol.

but yes, tennis balls are great. And if you have flat feet like me, trying rolling your foot on the tennis ball. Oh man, it’s heaven
