Hormone Blood Test

Hi,

I’m a newbie in the world of bodybuilding. So firstly, I don’t seek any advice on steroids as that is the last thing I need rite now.
I will be going for a blood test shortly. I just wanted to make sure that my hormone levels are in check.
The prob is, my doc hasn’t got much clue about which are the hormones I should have the blood test done. He says that I should only ask for a Testosterone check to discard any hypogonadism, etc. But I want a more deep test involving other hormones such as LH, HCG, Free Testosterone and Total Testosterone levels.

Could anybody provide my with a complete list of all the things I should ask for when going thru the blood test? I’m sure I’m missing tons of hormones which also play a significant role when bodybuilding is concerned.

BTW, I’m juss doing this coz I feel as though I have the symptoms of being hypogonadal (I am also on other medications that may be lowering my testosterone production, i really dont know). SO this is basically for my own reference and concern.

Thanx for any feedback/advice/info in advance.

i don’t think they will find any HCG, but you might want to get a better doctor, perhaps a specialist. it may involve some travel, but is worth it. i would look for a specialist that teaches endocrinology at a good university.

the other drug interactions may very well be interfering with test production. also diet is a big part of keeping natural production up. meat, fruit, vegetables and EFAs should make up the most of ones diet.

also, you may want to check your medication in pubmed. if you need help with this, PM me. when doing this, one has to be careful not to take a study with elderly women and extrapolate to young men though…

Thanx for dat info. But I basically want to know which are the main hormones I should ask for when I run the blood test. I’m sure that there are several other ones apart from just Testosterone that promote well-being, increased sex drive, higher energy levels, etc.

Rite now, I don’t experience much of the above traits (signs of having lower than average male hormone levels).

Thanx guys.

Guys it is REAL easy. Go to salivatest.com or bloodtest.com
You need to know estrogen and cortisol in relation to testosterone and even an IGF-1 as a type of marker for Growth hormone. A good doctor will be able to use different diagnosis codes to get it covered by insurance, but if you haven’t met your deductible yet the tests will run you less than $250 which is cheap compared to traditional blood work. If your deductible has not been met yet don’t waste time on a MD. The test results are very easy to read from the lab.

PAP,
thanx for that great link!!

I guess then that I should basically ask for my:

Total Testosterone
Free Testosterone
LH
Estradiol

        levels in the blood.

Is there any need to include any thyroid function substances such as T3, T4 or TSH?

Please keep in mind that I basically want to rule out any chance of me suffering from hypogonadism.

Thanx guys.

might as well get your thyroid checked too if it is not too much of a hassle, that way you can rule out hypothyroidism as well.
