Hold This Thread While I Walk Away

Good luck to you. Looking forward to the meet write up and video.

Good luck this weekend Matty.

WNPF Sarge McCray PL Meet write up

Before I start out with my synopsis just wanted to say that Hara absolutely killed it setting a federation national record. Hit his 500 lb squat and 575 pull (I believe) should have had an at least a 335 Bench if he would have ued to the fucking commands lol. Seriously though he really did well

Weigh in - I weighed myself before leaving the house and was 241.5. I thought to myself cool I won’t eat till after the weigh in possibly drop another deuce and compete in the 242s. Didn’t happen lol when I weighed in on their scale I was 243. No big deal

83 lifters in all. I was there at 8am and lifting didn’t end till about 530pm.

Squat - warm ups went surprisingly well I didn’t feel rushed. I warmed up to 335.

1st attempt - 390 3 whites. I didn’t hear my name called so I didn’t have time to wrap up but I sunk the shit out of it. Gave me confidence to hit my opener sans wraps.

2nd attempt - 430 3 whites. Almost forgot to lock my knees when starting . The judges are pretty strict but once again no problem . I wrapped this time.

3rd attempt - 450 3 whites. Rushed wrapping tons of material left over. It didn’t matter though weight felt lighter than the 430. I will readily admit that the 450 wasn’t as deep as the other attempts but deep enough!

30 pound PR

Bench

It sounds crazy but this is the most confident in bench I’ve been. probably because I had no real big aspirations of 350 paused bench. My bench press suffered the most because of the injury. once again warmups were fine even though the warmup benches were fucked.

1st attempt -275 3 whites no issues super easy. almost racked it to quick. felt very strong.

2nd attempt - 300 3 whites. same as above.

3rd attempt 320 miss. rob gave me the hand off I felt great the weight felt light. the weight exploded off my chest but once I hit the middle of the press it just stopped. it’s strange I really believe the nerve impulse seems fucked the way it just stopped and stayed there.

even though it’s below my meet bench of past I was pleased. it was a hard road back to 300. it gives me the confidence that going forward I can progress on the bench albeit slowly.

I’m living proof contradicting the general thought that all raw lifters are weak off the chest . it’s the middle for me. I always struggled at 2 board presses maybe it’s time to revisit board pressing

Deadlift

warm ups were fine. I warmed up to 445. I took warmups slow and easy. the waiting was killing me however.

I didn’t go past 515 in a year and a half so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

1st attempt 480 2 whites good lift. this felt like 275. it was cake as it should be. one judge red lighted me for shrugging the bar. I have no clue what I did wrong.

2nd attempt 545 - 3 whites 5lb PR. weight exploded off the floor. no real struggle modest 5lb PR.

using shitty stiff bars in training really helped!

3rd attempt 550 - miss. exploded off the floor then my back said fuck off asshole! I had nothing left.

1295 total FACK I wanted 1300. I definitely had 10 more pounds in the squat, I believe 315 bench. doesent matter though plus 15 meet total and I’m back in the fucking game!

vids to come

Great job Matty. You did well. You left on a high note and have plenty of room to improve. Also, I think I told you in the past that using the stiff bars at the gym would pay off. I’ve always been surprised how much easier deadlifts are at a meet, when I’m using good equipment.

Back to it today

Squat - 290x5 335x5 370x5
Hang Clean - 160x2x10
Bench - wut 275x5 (SS with Chins 3x10)

CS DB Row - 60x20 80x20
Db rear fly - 30x2x20

Amen dude, you were absolutely correct Crip! the 480 which is nothing special felt so much more difficult at the gym than at the meet, its amazing what a little whip will do!

I’m really happy for you Matty, great work and spirit with the comeback! Moah in your future!!!

Excellent job Matty. We had the same bench at our meets on Saturday and close to the same deadlift. Would be great to compete with you in the same contest one day. I applaud you for getting back to the iron today. I’ve decided to take a couple of days off because I’m still feeling the strain in my hip flexors from the meet this past weekend. Bigger totals are in our near future.

Congratulations! I am so pleased for you!

Perhaps the shrug on the DL resulted in slight downward motion? I’ve seen that before.

And you’re back training today? Egads.

Nice work Matty. Congratulations brother couldn’t be happier for you. PR’ ing in two of three lifts is awesome.

Great job big man. 2 PRs in a meet in awesome.

so glad to read this.
Im thrilled that you tore it up.
Good work amigo

PG, Snap, Dave, Crip, Bro, Ogre,

Thanks very much, I appreciate the kudos!

Training yesterday was hella dumb, feel like roadkill

Looking up in here, two pr’s . Hard work does pay off.

Thanks Dude, it certainly does.

Yesterday

Quick Session, I have been dealing with post meet flu, really felt terrible the past few days.

OH Press - 135x12 155x10
CG Floor Press - wut 245x5
Pendlays - 135x18 185x10 225x10 275x5
SGDL off 2" - 225x20

I’ve been there. I feel like piss for awhile after a meet. It takes so much out of you.

Feel better brother. Was fighting a bug earlier this week myself.

Thanks Dave, something is def going around

Heres my 545, five pound PR from Last week…
Starting tomorrow I will get started on my offseason programming for 10 weeks following Brian Carrolls 10/20 Life Protocol

Damn that was a good pull Matty!
