Hips Raising Too Fast?

Just wanted some quick feedback on whether you guys with powerlifting experience think my hips are raising too fast during my deadlift.

I focus on butt down chest up for the set up of my deadlift and do my best to maintain a constant torso to floor angle through out the lift.

However, I have noticed from analyzing my videos that my knees lock out a bit sooner than my hips do. Do you guys think it’s too negligible to worry about? Or am I lifting too much with my back in the last third of the lift?

yes. try to sit back more. in a perfect lift everything will lock out at the same time. the issue will become obvious when you go for a single. all the stress will be on your back.

I think the bigger issue is that your shoulders are in front of the bar almost the entire lift. You need to get more arch in your back. You shoulders should be even with the bar or behind it.

Yeah you’re definitely right about that, when I go over 500 my erectors and QL get raped way before my hammys and glutes do. Ill focus on digging my heels into the ground and pulling back and up versus just straight up.

For sure, I think its from the 4-5 years of Olympic lifting prior to any serious deadlift training that causes my shoulders to stay in line or in front of the bar.

As far as the arch goes I don’t “mind” where its at given its not rounded and the relative intensity. But having said that, a little more arch in this case wouldn’t hurt.

better hip mobility will help allow you to lower your hips.
chest out, shoulders back.
narrow stance and hands close to legs.

Looks fine to me. Some guys are set up to squat their deadlifts, other guys are simply stronger with a high hip position- particularly true for someone with long legs relative to their torso length.

I use even less leg drive than you. I dip my hips to create momentum, but if you look closely, my legs are almost locked the time the bar get moving:

I wouldn’t say my legs are disproportionately longer than my torso but you always hear differing opinions. Hips higher hips lower. People have used both versions and pulled huge numbers in either case.
