HIIT Training & Heart Valve Damage?

So i’m talking to a friend of mine tonight, regarding my current workout program. I was explaining JB’s TMA Routine to him, and was explaining HIIT to him and the intervals etc.

Anyway, he says that according to his “doctor” High intensity training above 65% of your max heart rate will damage your heart valves.

I politely disagreed, and didn’t really argue too much, since he seemed convinced. I then proceeded and changed the topic.

So I hit google, and couldn’t find any valid sources of this type of claim.

So if you let your heart rate go above 65% it damages the heart. I think he heard wrong.

Even doctors would be so narrow minded…would they?

The more likely situation, one I see every single day, is that the patient either heard wrong (ie. what they wanted to hear) or they completely misunderstood what was said. I have literally been in the room when a previous doctor last spoke with a patient only to have them see me at a later date and tell me they were not told what the appointment was for.

They tell us that patients only assimilate about 20% of what they hear. I think it is probably less than that. I repeat things often only because I have the luxury of more time. I can imagine that civilian practices just don’t have the time to repeat this info 300 times for each patient to make up for this.

next time he brings it up politely kick him in the knee. Fuckin’ saboteurs!

Humans are only able to take in so much. Add this to the fact we all have biases and we tend to hear what we want and dissimilate what we don’t.

The doctor may of been referring to how hard one would push/strain to perform the reps and that ‘could’ do some damage to the heart?

I don’t really know, i’m just mostly babbling shit, could be right though!
