Higher sodium levels thread

This whole sodium issue has got my attention. For quite some time now, I have restricted my sodium intake. Reason for this being that I wanted to rid my body of as much sodium as possible (minimize water retention). Now I am reading that this may not be the best thing to do anymore? What I have read in recent posts suggests that I need to take in higher amounts of sodium to rid the body of excess H2O. So I guess I have a few questions for anyone who can help me mout here:

  1. What are the benefit(s) of a higher sodium intake?
  2. How much sodium should I be taking in here and should it be partitioned out evenly throughout the day?
  3. Does this need to be cycled and are there any short/long cons to doing this?
