Pavel’s Hit the Deck program has you doing pushups every waking hour. No set is done to failure. Will this produce any significant capillary growth in a two-week period? How much strength should I expect to loose? Thanks in advance!
Zig
Bumpin this up im curious about this.
I’m not sure about capillary growth (should produce some I would think due to higher reps). It’s hard to say if you’ll lose strength on this program… probably so, but the pushups could also possibly bring up a weak point in your bench. This program sounds a lot like his chinup program - basically it’s supposed to make you really good at pushups through synaptic facilitation. Basically you’re teaching your body to get really good at doing pushups. Works with other movements, too.
Zig, I am assuming you mean bench press strength. I used Pavel’s program for two weeks and saw no significant strength loss. I may have lost something on my one-rep max, but it did not show up in my regular workouts. Pavel also suggests that you do a complimentary pull-up program as well. I can’t think of two movements that are better for real-world strength. As far as your physique is concerned, just look no further than Herschel Walker. Push-ups work. Keeping the faith, Solomon.
I did a loose version of Pavel’s program for about 2 weeks, no other chest movements and didn’t lose any strength. Possibly gained a little on my bench.
