High Intensity Energy System W/O

When I do energy system workouts(mostly jogging) my Heartbeat ups to 160(I am 36 Years old), but i can sustain it for 40 minutes easily(I end it because I get bored). MY ECG and echo exams are fine, but I don’t know if in the long run I would loose more fat by doing low intensity or interval, or any other systems reccomended.

I am getting bigger and leaner, but I would like to hear you fellas about it, or if You have a situation like mine.
thanx!

Howdy,

My track coach has me running 15x100m with a jogback, and occasionally 8x200m with a walkback. It has helped more than jogging ever did, for me, and in a much shorter time period.

I currently use 2 options.

1)Treadmill 20mins - 2mins brisk 2mins fast keep alternating.

  1. 5 mins treadmill starting at 6mph for min 1 then 6.5 etc etc if i can’t keep it up i use the rest of the 5mins to brisk walk then immediatly go to a 30kg barbell and do the following for 8 reps each non stop

-SLDL
-row
-pwr clean
-OH press
-split squat left leg forward then right 8 reps each
-pwr snatch

rest 2mins and repeat the whole treadmill/barbell complex 2 more times.

weights 3 days/week with one option after the session and another 3 days just doing the conditioning.

Ian King has written that that energy system training can seriously impair strength and size developments. I think it also depends on your body type.

If you are getting bigger and leaner just keep at it. Why try to fix what ain’t broke? When the progress stops that’s when I would start to tinker around.

If you are that mentally gassed from the current pace, feel free to mix in some interval work. Start slow and assess how you recover etc. Treat sprints as you would weight training with regards to nutrition.
