High Blood Iron Levels?

Hey guys,

25 year old male, recently had a general blood test and the doctor said my blood iron levels were 36?? I have no idea what units these are so can’t exactly comprehend what this means but he also said that blood iron should be less than 30.
Can anyone shed light on what units he is talking about and if my values are very high?
Thank you.

The range according to Mosby’s diagnostic lab and test manual is 14-32 umol/L. 36umol is just slightly above range and could mean excess intake, insufficient transferrin (a protein that transports iron and is made in the liver), decreased RBC production, and abnormal RBC destruction. Since it isn’t dramatically out of range I wouldn’t suspect any serious or immediate threat but some other lab values would be nice.

Thank you very much.
I also got my blood count which was 16.2, I assume this is the hemoglobin in grams per deciliter.
Total cholesterol was 5.3 mmol/L.
