I 100% agree with the OP’s stats of 5’11" and 197lbs. There are people out there who look bigger/heavier than what the number on the scale reflects. It all boils down to proportions!
The OP appears to have a relatively small head (very evident in the back shot). Having a small crainium is a HUGE blessing with regards to bodybuilding potential. To state the obvious, the smaller your head is, the bigger your body will appear. Take 2 guys who are clones of each other from the neck down. However one guy has a 23" head circumference and the other guy has a 21" circumference. The guy with the 21" head is going to give the ILLUSION of having a bigger body even though they are both identical in size. Muscular cartoon heroes are always depicted with small heads for this very reason.
The OP has long muscle bellies (especially in his arms). Check out how short the tricep tendon is in the right arm in the back shot. His triceps muscle runs down pretty close to his elbow. In the frontal shots you can see the fullness of the brachialis and biceps pushing into each other, a trademark of long and developed muscle bellies. The majority of the population does not have long muscle bellies and can’t acquire them; 100% genetic.
The OP’s wrists do not appear to be tiny which may be indicative of large arm bones capable of augmenting bigger muscle bellies. This factor (large arm bones) coupled with long muscle bellies and a significant degree of development all factor in to contribute to the “thick look.”
Also the OP has a narrow hip/pelvic bone structure which is tied in with the capacity to have a small waist. This makes the upper body appear bigger and visually/aesthetically impressive.
Alot of bodybuilding is about muscular proportions and how they sit on one’s skeletal structure. Weighing a certain bodyweight does not equate or guarantee a certain look! So for all you guys who weigh more but look less impressive, just remember that bodyweight and what you ulitmately look like are not correlated.
To the OP, you have the natural/genetic gifts. The rest is intelligence and dedication both of which you appear to have. Good job!
