Help With Eliminating Carbs!

Hey guys,

Started counting calories and eating clean this new year on my first cut. Initially I was simply counting total calories (keeping it between 1600-1800/day and eating as much protein as possible) while lifting 5 times/week (3 heavy 2 circuit) and some steady state cardio after each workout (I know HIIT is optimal for FL but because i have to do my cardio after a taxing workout, I only have the energy for 30 mins at steady state).

I reently began counting Grams for each Protein - Carbs -Fats and realized my carbs are pretty high. I am getting about 180 grams of protein 150 grams of Carbs and about 40 grams of Fat.

This seems like too much carbs on a Cutting cycle, but I can’t figure out how to decrease these numbers…My carbs come from Oatmeal in the morning, Almonds and Vegetables…

Is it Okay to have more than 100g of carbs/day while cutting if they are mainly coming from these sources and not starchy carbs?

If not, what substitutes should be made in my diet?

Thanks!

Is my T-Nation F-ed up or is this thread visible to you guys and not me!

I would flip flop your carb/fat amounts. DON’T eat oatmeal on a fat loss cycle. Eat a piece of lean meat and a couple Omega-3 eggs instead.

Only eat green veggies and a few pieces of fruit around workout times. This will greatly improve your fat loss efforts.

Really??

1- I was under the impression that your first meal and PWO meal should contain a good amount of carbs.

2- Fat, 150 grams? that’s a Load more than I’m getting, where would I get them from?

Really.

  1. You asked for a SUGGESTION, and I gave you one. There are many ways to lose fat. A low carb approach is a good one. Nobody ever said you MUST eat carbs for breakfast. If you MUST eat carbs for breakfast, eat fruit. That and after a wokrout are the OPTIMAL times to eat carbs. But it’s not necessary.

  2. My flip flop statement was just and illustration. If 150 grams of fat (1,350 cal ) doesn’t fit into your daily requirements, then adjust it. However, on a low carb diet, you need to eat a good amount of fat. Do the math for your body weight and figure it out. As far as what you should eat to obtain that, I think you can research different foods and find out for yourself.

Thanks Cueball, I wasn’t trying to second guess you (I apologize if that’s how read it).

The Bigger question I guess I am trying to get at is whether there is a difference between eating starchy carbs vs carbs found in vegetables/fruits or almonds. Or are carbs just carbs, and vegetables and almonds will have the same effect as eating whole wheat bread when it comes to your body storing fat!?

Thanks again for the replies!
