Help me review X-Vest!

Sorry, had to do this after the bands topic. I’ve got a bunch of ideas, but I’d like some creative ones or somethin.

The main thing I would use an X-vest for is plyometrics, and various other explosive exercises that usually only use bodyweight.
I would also check out football drills or other sports drills.

Okay first some questions…

What is the band topic you are referring to?

What is your occupation?

Okay if it is possible for you to wear the x-vest for all of your waking hours it would be excellent!

The thing is that every other reviewer will use it for some plyometrics or weighted chins/dips and say it feels comfortable blah blah blah…

I think you should go all out and test your vertical leap and max in several movements AND test your body comp body fat% LBM etc etc…

Then after a couple of weeks of wearing it 16 hours a day and having made NO changes in your life other then the vest report back on how you feel, and the changes in your body comp and your numbers ie vert + gym numbers…

Slide push-ups. Great exercise for the chest but hard to add additional load.

I think Chris Aus made a few good points. I’d also like to see lots of cardio. How does it handle sweat? Is it easy to wash the stink out? When running with all that weight on your chest, how does it effect your breathing? I know the vests come in different weight sizes, but are the weights removable to change the resistance? Do you feel it would be worthwhile for people that travel a lot to pack for bodyweight only exercises in the hotel room? I’m glad you asked for help. I think that everyone reviewing these products should ask for suggestions to make all the reviews answer as many people’s questions as possible. I hope I came up with a few helpful suggestions.

How about doing dips or pull ups with it on? Does wearing it change hand placement? or grip width? How about pushups with it on? Sprints or jumping rope in it? Sit ups? For firefighters or police officers do you think it would be a useful training tool to replicate the weight those professions carry on them at work? For police kevlar vests and belt gear, for firefighters heavy coats and airpacks, think it would help these people prepare for their job demands?

Running short hills, jumping rope, and any bodyweight exercise (squat thrusts, mountain climbers, clap push ups, etc, etc). Hopefully for various resistances - and compare how workouts went across resistances and across type (sprinting, hills, mountain climbers, etc).

I’m interested to see what you think. I’ve thought about buying one in the past, but was/am unsure about dropping the $ on one…

Hmmm… You should probably message the other x-vest reviewers and make sure you are not doing exactly the same thing as that would be waste…

also, i think that there should be a thread for requests/advice for every review item…

I dont mean to dis the person that said chins and dips… I mean thats a great request but ill bet that x-vest will be fine for those things but it doesnt really truely test it… i mean tons of products can be used successfully easily and effectively for chins and dips… what would be good to know is how it stands up to a battering… the person that mentioned skipping, and washing, adjusting, running all the things that might be awkward and uncomfortable… can you wear it to work underneath your work clothes?
Does it stink after a while?
Does it pinch when you jump/run/skip? Does it jam into your back?

I still think that wearing it 16hours a day for a week and testing body comp and ahtletic ability before and after would be cooooooooooooooool

I think that you guys are all forgetting an important part of this tester… she is an 11 year old girl. A forty lb x-vest is half her weight. Her occupation can only be described as… a child.
No disrespect intended Tokyoo, in fact I have great respect for you. But I just think that we should take that into consideration when giving her advice. That’s why I said she should do sports drills and explosive bodyweight movements.
I give her all the credit in the world for doing this, I personally believe that her age and size make her a perfect candidate for the X-vest because that adds a whole new dynamic to anything that she does with it.
I was thinking this over, and if your school has a playground with monkey bars and balance beams and other things like that, I would take your x-vest there and see what effect extra weight has on balancing, it could be a decent co-ordination developer as well as working your core, I think doing some regular everyday things like that (it was regular stuff when I was 11) with 20 or so extra pounds would put a different twist onto childhood staples.

But hey thats just one guys opinion.

Well, I should be getting my Xvest today to review and will follow some of your guys suggestion for sure. I want to let you all really know how this thing performs.

1 Thing is that we only have a limited time to get the review in, but that is the official review and can keep trying crap and reporting after that.

I am willing to wear the thing for a whole day or two 24-7 but I dunno about a whole freaking week. I’ll let ya know on that.

The main things I plan are using it for enhancing BW movements, chins, sit ups, etc… As well as just general fitness. Wearing it every morning to go walking trails and hills, etc…

I’ll wash it and such to see how it holds up (I need to do laundry anyhow).

Just keep ideas coming and we will do what we can I am sure.

By the way great idea on starting this thread.

Hope I can help,

Phill

Yeah guys, remember she’s an 11 year old girl and only has about a week to test it out. I think she was the only female who signed up so she got it. She’s pretty dang smart though judging by her other posts where she quoted Dave Tate articles! Also, since she got the small women’s vest, her’s is the 20 pounder not the 40.

Anyway, just play with it. Do bodyweight squats and lunges. Run a little, do sprints, tell us if it stays in place and is comfortable when using it for jumps and such. How easy is it to change the weight? Take it down to 10 pounds and tell us how that works. Do push-ups with it on. Can you do chin-ups? Try them with 10 pounds in there then. Does it allow free arm movement and range of motion?

Just a few ideas for things to test out and report back to us.

Well the vest just knocked on my door. I’ll begin the real test of this bad boy in the morn…

I got a training idea I would like one of the other tester to try. I was thinking maybe treading water while wearing this thing would be a good work out. LOL.

I’ll leave that one up to you guys.

First impression. I will fit right in wearing this around D.C… Half the folks around here have bullet proof vest on. Also, this thing is 100 times more comfortable than a back pack with plates in it.

Phill

I’d like to know how much it moves or shifts when wearing is, is it loose or tight, how is sweat handled, Does it put the weight on the right places(does it compress your spine? Does it hurt your knees or feet alot) & do you wake up with abnormal pains (besides muscle soreness lol) Can you do a cartwheel with it on? OK nevermind the last one :stuck_out_tongue:

The thing is definitely comfortable to wear compared to any weighted back pack. It feels like it’s part of your body. Review will come soon enough. laters pk

Coach Davies uses the vest a lot. Treading water is one way, so is wearing it while doing Oly lifts. Reduce the bar weight by the weight of the vest and do your normal workout. Or wear it while doing farmers walks thru waist deep water…just couple of ideas Coach has used on athletes. His site has an article series written by one of his athletes, that is where I got these ideas. I am just supposed to wear it through out my entire workout. I finally saved up enough to buy mine today. Hope it is here soon…

In Faith,
Matt

Would the X-vest maybe help break a plateu in squats. Imagine using the same weight on the bar but having your body weigh more. I would think that it could be beneficial like that. Or am I just way off?

Yippee! Just received it from the Fedex guy!

Lmao. Dude I look like a cop. So far, I can do everything I was able to do without it on such as lifting my arms and such but thats all I’ll say right now.

Well, I was just screwing around with the treading water statement, but, I just pulled this off of the Xvest site FAQ link.lol
Can I use it for swimming?
Our Xvest is currently utilized by the US women’s synchronized swim team as well as numerous Olympic swimmers. So yes, you can use the Xvest while you’re swimming.
Dont expect me to test this one.

I did my first hills and such this morn. I will hold off for the review but so far all good.

I have a bunch of little test planned for my leg w/o today. Should be interesting and kee the suggestions coming.
