Help Me Grow Bigger!

Out of 38 posts 2 or 3 of them are diets, others is x putting people straight; and the rest is full of people saying “eat loads train hard” were off topic post diets, so he can get some ideas.

Good point but I think this all got a bit sidetracked from a nutrition standpoint because “Growing Bigger” is obviously not just about reading how someone else structures their diet.

Posts like the one from the OP come up from time to time and you can’t just spoon feed them an answer assuming they’ll know how to implement it. Often times, and is almost for sure the case with the OP, a list will only make things more complicated, and results will suffer due to a sort of rigidity/inflexibility imposed by a list – a list that has little to do with BBing.

It’s just not the best way to respond to posts like this. Precision Nutrition (PN) was offered up as advice in the very first response, and I feel like responses like that are exactly how this sort of post should be replied to. So from the beginning he was not lead astray. That was a very good response.

If he looked into it like he said he would, he’d have a pretty damn good list as well as some excellent insight on how to properly implement those foods to attain his goal.

Although he said he would (look into PN) I don’t even know if he ever did because the day after he said he would, he commented that
Sosruko’s (list) was kind of what I was looking for. Except his has too much protein powder. I’d prefer something with real foods.
The list of foods in PN is exactly what he was looking for but he wanted it more simple than that. He’s looking for simplicity but in the process is making things more complicated and doesn’t even realize he’s already got the answer he needs.

No fault of his. It’s experienced people’s job to help him realize if he’s barking up the wrong tree. It makes sense and I don’t blame him, but if you spoon feed somebody, they’ll never learn. “Teach a man to fish…”

I’m not going to copy and paste any content from the purchased material from PN, but here is a list from JB’s site:
7 large bags fresh spinach
3 large bags fresh carrots
2 pineapples, either fresh or precut
7 apples
7 plums (or oranges, pears, etc.)
4 bananas
7 potatoes/yams
1 bag of quinoa (ancient grains)
1 lemon
1 clove garlic
4 large red bell peppers
1 onion
1 lb walnuts
1 container non-stick cooking spray
1 box high fiber cereal
1 jar of pesto
1 box green tea
1 container apple cider vinegar
1 bottle flax oil
1 bottle extra virgin olive oil
7 lbs extra lean beef
3 packages of chicken or turkey sausage
7 containers egg whites
1 dozen omega 3 eggs
1/2 lb sliced cheese
2 large containers plain yogurt
1 bottle salmon oil/fish oil capsules
http://www.johnberardi.com/articles/nutrition/first_stop.htm

I think posting a shopping list like this is a much more reasonable thing to do if a list is to be provided at all, or even just a few muscle building recipes (also refer to JB’s site or this one… try searching “Cooking with the Power Foods”, and many others).

While PN sure as hell aint the only way to go about “Growing Bigger” it is a good suggestion, but it’s also a lot more complicated that things really do need to be.

There were other good responses as well, like hungry4more’s first post in the thread in which he simplified things by saying, in response to “Help Me Grow Bigger!”
Eat a shitload of meat, eggs and milk, and fruit and veggies. Lift heavy, get stronger. The rest you’ll figure out if you read, like you should be doing anyways.
PX summed it up nicely by saying
How hard is it to just eat food? How is this complicated? In fact, if it is complicated at all, you are doing it wrong.

You want to grow bigger. That means eating more than you are now to gain weight. Why do you need someone to pick the specific foods for you as if there is only one way to eat?
hungry4more also tried to comment along those lines but PX beat him to it.

OP then admitted that he tends to over complicate things, but he then said the following misguided comment
I’m really going to do what you did. Just eat to be your weight, not worry about getting fat, because I bust my ass in the gym everyday, and if I do gain some fat so be it. Thanks ProfX
PX clarified on the subtle differences between getting fat and doing a proper bulk. PX also very briefly discussed proper training.

Yada yada yada. More stuff was said. Some things were not clearly communicated by myself (sorry) and hungry4more. We each tried to straighten out the situation which I think we did. Some other good comments were made by SteelyD, Jarvis, sam_sneed, and fuzzyapple and others (sorry if I left you off - it’s hard to defend all 38 posts (less the 2 or 3 supposed good ones)) and here we are now…

Anyways, long story short, I think ONLY giving this kid a list is not a good idea. Thankfully though, we did a decent job of giving him advice along with the list. If you do want a list of what successful people eat though, take a look at what successful people do.

Actually seek out the info from the people on this site who are successful and research what they did to do it. If you want to know who the successful people are, just ask and a list will be provided.

Good luck OP. Please don’t take this as negatively directed toward you in any way. It’s not meant to be negative toward anyone actually. Many people here are, have been, and always will be willing to help you out to the best of our abilities.

Fair enough, its just what he asked for so I thought we should give it to him.He already appears to be training hard and he’s been on here long enough to see a thread like this, so I presumed that was what is best for him; to be given diets that are working for people.
Liked the reply though, good summary of the thread.

No offense, but unless you are under the age of 18, life has usually taught you well by that point that what you NEED isn’t always what you WANT.

Giving someone this inexperienced some specific list of meals to eat could do more damage than good if they don’t understand how to follow BASIC guidelines and think for themselves.

Some of you ranting that we don’t just answer the question must also be fairly new at this. Many of us are NOT new at this.

Many of us understand what is really missing in a poster’s understanding and are trying to address that. Spoonfeeding helps WHOM?

No offense but he must have seen a thread saying “eat more” he wanted some ideas of what others eat how is this going to do any damage?; he asked a question and was given what every thread gives you “eat more”.
This is the reason why we keep getting this same thread because know one will give them a straight answer.

220 pounds, typical daily food intake
5:40 AM: 1 cup quick oats, 1 cup blueberries, 2 tbsp natural peanut butter, 2 scoops protein
7:30 AM: 4-6 whole eggs, 10 egg whites, 1 cup quick oats
10:00 AM: 16-24 ounces skim milk, some healthy fat, 2 scoops protein
12:00ish PM: 10 ounces lean protein, 50-70 grams carbs
2:00-4:30 PM: Workout Nutrition: usually around 900 calories
5:30 PM: 10 ounces lean protein, 70 grams carbs
7:30 PM: 10 ounce lean protein, 50 grams carbs
10:00 PM: Healthy fat, protein shake, 24 ounces skim milk

Thats a typical day, so you’re pretty much eating every 2 hours from the time you wake up. It’s all about discipline and taking in enough calories to grow. This has worked so far for me, I have put on about 10-15 solid pounds since the summer, but the key is that it works for me. This may not work for you, but it should serve as simply an example of how much you need to eat.

What does SOMEONE ELSE’S diet have to do with you, the OP, or anyone else? It isn’t like eating exactly like him will produce the same results so again, why focus on that and not basic principals so this guy can learn to eat on his own?

How old are you?

22 years old.Training 7 years mma, started fighting at 18 with 12 - 1 (only small comps)then quit; and been training strength 3 years added 154lbs to my dead lift 88lbs to my to my squat.
Gone from weighing in at 145lb (last fight) to today 189lbs (same bf).

If some one would have helped me with my diet in this way I believe I wouldn’t have put on somuch fat whilst bulking, obviously making my cuts shorter that’s what it has to do with me and the op.
Like I’ve said before he knows to “eat more” he wants examples of clean diets wants experienced people to say “try to avoid this I tried it didn’t work this is the diet I have come to now see what you can pick from it”.
I’ve not come to offend people .

Sosruko,
The avatar is very recent (2 days ago).

Prof X,
I totally agree that my diet should not be replicated at all by the OP, I only posted it to serve as an example of caloric intake. I came to this type of eating through experience and that is what the OP needs to do. He needs to experiment and eat to build muscle.
