Help Leaning Out (Substantially) While Increasing Strength

Apologies for not being clearly. Currently, yes. I am progressing on all lifts (as a matter of fact, hit my 1rm deadlift (405) for 3 just yesterday).

My lifts are progressing pretty steadily, my OHP and bench are slow though. And yes, it’s partially to blame for my poverty bench. My surgeon seriously limited all push movements, so most I could do was band work. I didn’t want to stop lifting altogether, which is why i stuck to squatting and deadlifting.

Currently, it’s not much of a problem. The only exercises I can’t do are behind the neck press and snatch-grip high pulls. It has though left my upper body disproportionately week (as you noted.)

This is kind of common. My bench and OHP are stubborn lifts and don’t like to improve much. If I add 20 lbs to deadlift then I’ll be lucky to add 5 lbs to my OHP.

You’re pretty new to the weight lifting game so I don’t think you should associate your weight with your strength yet. There will come a time when you’ve done everything you can and the only way to get stronger is to gain weight, but you’re not there yet. If you focus on the right things now then you’ll be more successful (and happier) later in your life. Neglecting things now for the sake of chasing numbers can leave you broken and disappointed down the road.

Dial in your technique. Try to be perfect (for your body; not everyone else’s). Dial in your nutrition. Experiment on yourself to see what works for you. You can learn a lot by reading but you’ll have to experience some trial and error at some point. The sooner you start, the sooner you can drop the junk and focus on what works for you and reach your goals.
