Hey Christian,
I was hoping you would be able to help me identify which nuerotype I am. I find your nuerotyping system very fascinating
In training:
I don’t really enjoy heaving lifting. I hardly even lift under 5 reps
I love getting a good pump
When lifting anything above 6 reps I tend to get frustrated if I can’t feel the target muscle doing the work or I am having a hard time contracting the target muscle. I am always trying to improve my mind muscle connection
In life:
I tend to be more introverted
I don’t like being the centre of attention
I much prefer to be in a small group of close friends rather than a large group of people I don’t know as well
Everybody tells me I am a very easy going person
I absolutely hate conflict
I am a very routine based person
If I ever step out of my routine there is usually some fear around it. Probably fear of the unknown
I am generally a pretty obsessive person. I do have a history of substance abuse. Proud to say I have been clean and sober for over 2 years. Training has probably become my new obsession
In sports:
I have always gravitated towards the extreme sports
Skateboarding, snowboarding, rollerblading, motocross racing are all things I have really enjoyed and gotten quite good at.
I have always liked going fast as long as I am in control. I don’t enjoy things like roller coasters
With diet:
Again, very routine based.
I don’t like experimenting with new food. I know what I like and I stick to it
I have an eating routine. Usually every 3 hours
I tend to be pretty meticulous with measuring my food
Thank you for all your work you do and thank you in advanced for any advice you are able to give me
That’s a type 2B. You have lots of Type 3 traits, but that is likely because you had a stressful event or series of event that lead to a depletion or problem with your serotonin and gave you those type 3 traits.
Being introverted, routine-based, obsessive, needing to feel in control and sticking to what you know are all subconscious strategies to deal with anxiety. And anxiety is nothing more than an overactivation of the nervous system (neurons firing too fast). So you are likely someone who tends to create scenarios in his head, maybe have a hard time sleeping because you can’t seem to shut down your brain?
The fast that you like skateboarding, snowboarding, etc. tells me that you are very responsive to either dopamine or adrenaline. But if you were dopamine dominant you would be extroverted, super confident, etc. So you are adrenaline dominant. Which means either 2A or 2B. But because you don’t like change, prefer to be in a small group or with one person, don’t like heavy lifting, this tells me you are not 2A but 2B
So…
2B with low level of serotonin, likely due to some personal stress or a big traumatic event
I remember watching a video on your thibarmy website and if I can remember correctly you said that carbs effect serotonin levels. What is your recommendation for someone like me with low seretonin should have for carbs? Through-out the day? Pre and post workout?
Pre and intra-workout definetly. First because it will lowers cortisol during training (which comes from the higher level of anxiety) but also because it will increase the “pump” feeling that 2Bs crave.
I also suggest carbs in the evening. Not a lot, but enough to help you relax and switch your brain on off. If you are trying to get leaner or don’t want to get too fat, I’d keep most of the carbs at these two times.
You can also use glycine at 5-10mg post workout and in the evening to calm down your nervous system (basically doing what serotonin does) and you can look into Z-12 in the before bed.
Im almost exactly the same as the OP except that I DO NOT gravitate towards extreme sports. Im very concious of the possibility of injury (perhaps because I have had so many in life). Also I do like to lift heavy, or relitively so.
Apart from that me and OP are the same.
I have always thought I would be a type 3, is this so or would I be 2A?
I am dong 5/3/1 and this syle does seem to suit me but, as always, wondering if waht I have figured out about myself is true.
Only other thing that might be worth mentioning is that I seem to fuel better of fats than carbs. I make sure I have carbs before and afer a weights day, other than that if Im dieting Ill cut most other carbs out and feel little hunger.
