My wife has had extreme pain in her joints now for a few weeks. I sent her for ART for her knees, while her flexiblity has improved her discomfort has not. She also has pain and stiffness in the hands and wrist areas also elbow and shoulder pain (middle of her arm between bi’s and tri’s to medial delt). Her ART Dr. said it is probably tendonitis due to age (she’s only 34). Does this sound like arthritis, tendonitis? Any ideas to help would be appreciated. I did buy the Pavel dvd “Super Joints” and figuired I could do the exercises with her when it arrives but in the meantime any ideas? Please help!
Supplements:
Glucosamine
Salmon oil (omaega-3’s)
Anit-oxidants
These will help with the symptoms, and should help the joints to be healthier overall. If you can find the glucosamine combined with boswellia, that would help too, as that’s a natural anti-inflammatory.
brider has a good list there.
I would only add two more to the list. Both have helped me and others: MSM and Boswella.
I honestly would not be training at the level that I do If I did not take these (including briders list) supplements. Give them a full 60 days to notice a difference.
I wish your wife the best-Never give up!
The following will tell you a bit about both of them:
"Boswella is composed of boswellic acids, an extract of the resin of the Boswellia serrata tree which grows in India. Boswellic acids have anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic action in acute and chronic models of inflammation. They do not produce an analgesic effect, but appear to suppress the inflammation, which is the underlying cause of the pain. For many people, Boswella reduces joint swelling and morning stiffness, increases mobility, and reduces arthritic pain.
Leukotrienes cause inflammation by promoting free radical damage, calcium dislocation, autoimmune responses, cell adhesion and the migration of inflammation-producing cells to the inflamed body area. Boswella inhibits inflammation by blocking the synthesis of leukotrienes."
"MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)
supports healthy joints
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a naturally occurring, organic sulfur-containing compound related to DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide). Studies have shown that sulfur from oral supplements of MSM is incorporated into body proteins. Other studies have reported that joints affected by osteoarthritis have lower sulfur content and mice with arthritis given MSM experience less joint deterioration. MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a non-metallic organic compound that plays an essential role in human nutrition. When amino acids, the trace minerals zinc, copper and silicon and vitamin C are present, the body metabolizes MSM to sulfur. Sulfur, a structural component integral to new cell growth, is stored in every cell of the body, particularly the hair, nails, bones, teeth and the connective tissue of joints and skin, where it is an important component of protein. Sulfur also contributes to fat digestion and absorption vis-?-vis its role in bile acid production. As a component of insulin, sulfur is needed to regulate blood sugar."
For Glucosamine, you can get it with MSM (methylsulfonyl-methane)at GNC. Supposedly, this combination is supposed to be better than straight Glucosamine (TC, Cy, anybody?). Although don’t use if she is allergic to shellfish. Also, good old plain aspirin will help, it is an anti-inflamatory. This is aspirin, Tylenol doesn’t count.
See previous threads on wobenzyme in addition to the MSM and glucosamine. Chondroitan (sp?) is usually given with glucosamine, not sure if it is need.
Good description! Yours hadn’t posted, when I sent mine.
Xalfred,
Has your wife recently either started a workout program or changed it significantly? It would be rather odd to suddenly develop tendonitis in multiple locations all at the same time. If the pain is truly localized to the joints and not in the muscles, I would suggest that she get some blood work done to check for any type of inflammatory arthritis. At her age it would be more likely to have an inflammatory arthritis than widespread degenerative arthritis.
Brider and ZEB’s supplement recommendations would be helpful 2000mg Glucosamine sulfate (not HCl)
3-6g Fish Oil
Multi-vit
If you would like to PM me with add’l info regarding the onset of your wife’s symptoms I would be glad to try to help. Take care.
Ryan
Getting bulk MSM powder would be better option. Just mix a few grams in V-8 juice and drink it. It’s a lot cheaper that way if you know where to get them. I know of online place that sells them cheap so PM me…
I used to have jointpain when I was living in Sweden. During the winters my hands would give me hell.
What worked for me was to cut out red meat from my diet and take asprin for the pain / antiinflamatory.
Have you made any drastic changes in your diets?
Mr. Moose:
What do you suppose was in the red meat which caused the inflamation?
I don’t think it was the red meat causing it but it definitly made it worse. Red meat once a week was OK but anymore than that…PAIN
This was only during the winters though, (the cold shitty weather in Sweden is bad at best and when it cause you pain aswell…) It really make you look forward to the summer ![]()
I’ve lived in Thailand for the 10 years and haven’t had any problems with the arthritis so I guess, in my case, a warmer climat was what I needed.
I just wanted to thank everyone who has tried to be helpful. I really appreciate
the people who have taken time out of their busy schedules to try to help me. If I can be of assistance to anyone let me know. I now reside in Vegas so if anyone ever has Vegas ?s PM me.
Ahhh old arhtitis… i know him well.
Get to a rheumatologist in a hurry, no sense is leting it get worse before you get any treatment. if you dont have health insurance… get some before you go to the doctor, trust me on this one. If you can, get on enbrel, its the shit, thats what i take, i went from not being able to work to squatting/benching/deadlifting all in the same session 3x a week.
Beyond start taking some devils claw, its workin great for me and it cost like 5 bucks for 100 capsules. Also get up on that fishoil and glucosamine.
