So before Saturday nights fight against Abraham, I was having a hard time picking a winner. I was really pulling for Direll, but after i saw what Abraham did to Jermain, I just couldn’t confidently say that Direll would come out on top. But man that kid surprised me. Gave Abraham a boxing lesson for 10 rounds, he moved well, stung Abraham on the outside and just did not seem intimidated.
Direll floored Arthur, but he also tasted the canvas later although it was ruled a slip. Tough call for the ref because the feet were tangled, but personally I would have ruled it a knockdown, not that it would matter anyway.
The ending though, was extremely disappointing. Direll was so far up on the cards it was obvious that Abraham was starting to get desperate. After Abraham’s theatrics in literally every fight I’ve seen him in, bitching about “low” punches, he had absolutely no right to say that Direll was “a good actor” Direll was hit so hard and so clearly while down, it’s hard to make a case for Abraham here.
If that hadn’t occurred then I believe that Direll was on his way to a very easy decision, but it happened. I also do not think that Direll was KO’d by the late hit, but theres no doubt it hurt him bad. If he continued AFTER the cheap shot, he would have been stopped so it was a smart move not to go on, especially after how clearly he whipped Abraham. So all in all, Abraham bitched as always, blatantly cheated and hurt his opponent with a foul, Direll probably could have continued, but only to get KO’d very badly.
Im very happy that Direll won, and i felt for him when he got so upset, and rightfully. How would you feel if you outclassed your opponent for 10 rounds and then had to settle for a DQ victory. So those are my thoughts on Ssturdays fight. Any other opinions on what went down?
