Height - Weight Proportion

Same here man. 230 lean @ 6’1 is about right.

In Randall Strossen’s book “Super Squats”, he says to find your fully developed weight start with 100 lbs as a base and add 10lb for each inch you are over 5’. To find your maximum bodyweight, add 30-40lb to this number.

For a guy 5’6", fully developed you should be 160 lean. A good maximum number to shoot for would be 190 or 200.

meh, im not really into numbers. i just pick 230 cause it sounds big and its more than i weigh now and its far enough that itll take me a while to get there but close enough that i know i can reach it with work.

same thing with lifts. i want to have a 405x5 and i think, nah i KNOW im gonna hit it soon (385x5 last week). then i want a 500 dead (1RM) and in total i want a 3/4/5 but i dont squat (OOOOOOOOOOH) so ill have a 3/*/5

but a 405 bench and 700 deadlift would be fucking PISSA thats a ways away though and im keeping it short term goal after short term goal for now.

…i wanna get to 210 too, i may be close, i was 200 a few weeks ago and ive been eating a ton and all my lifts have been going up each time so i think i may be close now. gonna have to weigh in again monday.

I am 5’8" I am at 203 right now and I am not anywhere near where I want to be. 220lb is my next imediate goal. Long term has no limit in sight. I will know when it is time to cut just cant see it anytime soon. On a side note dress pants are getting hard to find that fit right. Ass and legs fill them out too much. Damn I love progress!

What the hell? That is what tailors are for.

I am 165-170 now and 5’7 but body fat is a bit high. I do want to be around 180-185 lean (8%). We’ll see…still learning my body.

Train and eat until you think you have enough muscle then cut fat till you are as lean as you want.

Goals should be stepping stones, not brick walls.

If you want to be 180-185 lean you will have to go to around 230-240 and THEN start the “cutting” aspect.

Gaining alot of muscle takes fucking decades cutting bodyfat takes months

for the guy asking what 180 looks like at 6 feet ripped…(granted i’ve never considered myself genetically blessed, so Maybe somebody could pull it off to look better) but at 180 and 6 feet i looked very skinny, even at very low body fat, it doesnt matter, it was skinny, i’m over 200 now around 10% bodyfat and i’m slightly less skinny

I think my BMI says I’m supposed to be between 165-180lbs, which is just ridiculous.

I used to not care about numbers as long as I felt like I was working hard and noticed I was growing, but now I definitely think having specific short term goals in mind helps.
When you see that you’re just 2 or 3 pounds off your next goal, you are going to be motivated to work harder than if you just went to the gym and said “hey I’m growing, awesome”.

I’m 5’9, 160, ~10% Bodyfat and my goal for the spring is 175, no more than 12% bodyfat. You can’t really ask what numbers would look good on your body because it’s totally opinion based. Be as big as you want to.

Most of us care about numbers. Those who don’t will make less progress. He should be setting short and long term goals. He should not be sitting there as a beginner wondering what his exact final weight should be long before he has ever made any real progress based off of a chart. I think having a mental image of your goal would be more productive.
A very good post here. Having both short term and long term goals can be one of the best motivators to keep you working. Make realistic short term goals that ultimately add up to your big picture view. Each milestone you reach is very gratifying. Gives you the drive to move forward to your next milestone. Before you know it you will have reached or exceeded your big picture view.

I’d rather shoot for relative strength and the underwear model look that will never go out of fashion.
lol. I’ve dated two guys that had about those proportions(5’6 ~200lbs and lean). They looked damn good in suits and even better in my bed.

There you have it. Straight from he horse’s…wait, that’s far too much material to run with

I mean, right from the source. Where it counts, gentelmen.

buckeye girl,

I saw my mother’s friend tonight when I was over at my parents’ for dinner. The first words out of her friend’s mouth, “Oh my god. Look at you. You are getting fat.”

Fat??? Bitch, I’m TRYING to gain weight!

Keep in mind I am 165 (barely) at 5’7, completely slender in street clothes. But this is the same woman who yelled at me for eating “too much protein” and retorted, “I get plenty. I have about one egg per day!”

Die !#@$(&()%#&

Can’t a brotha gain some chub?? I need support, meaning you either talk dirty or you put mo’ food on ma plate.

5’6 at 180 ~10% right now

Looking to get up to 190 pretty soon. The chart on page one is screwed up.

anything over 165 5’6 I think is half decent. Its not amazing but its slightly above average.

Like OP I am cursed with shortness genetics.

LOL!!

This was a joke, right?

They just grabbed a bunch of random people who clearly don’t lift and took pictures of them. That relates to us (hopefully most of us) about as much as the RDA for protein.

Look at Geoffrey here, he’s 6’7 @ 300 pounds weight.

HAHA!

Shortness a curse?

Tailoring suits at 200lbs?

To me, being 5’6" is a blessing. I don’t have to gain as much weight, plus having the short limbs makes it easier to press and squat heavier weights.

And being 200 lean at this height will looking fucking awesome.

The end.
