Hedlesky's Ok, I've Mentally Collapsed Log

I do notice you doing what I call “extreme rep sets”. Things where you do a single set of 100-300 or even more reps or lift a weight for a certain number of minutes continuously. I’ve done various rep ranges for strength, hypertrophy, and endurance, but these rep ranges are well in excess of any of those. I’ve always assumed sets like that were for either rehabilitation or prehabilitation. Is that a correct assessment? Do you feel like they are a useful tool to help “bulletproof” a muscle or tendon?

This summer, I’m running WS4SB: Part III. I’m switching max effort and repetition effort exercises every 2 weeks. Could I benefit from rotating between speed work and rep work every 2 weeks as well?

Shit. To say things aren’t going well would be an understatment. Long story short a series of unfortunate life altering events took place that have royally run my ass up a flag pole of mind fuck. I am still alive… which is about all I’ve got right now. But, with 7 weeks to go, I am refocused and ready to put my insane training ideas in motion. Training might be the only thing keeping me from a total psychological breakdown so I am going to bust my ass at it. Oh yea, and I have a broken foot. Just to get shit on a little more. It’s a stress fracture and the doc recommended I stay off it completely for 4 weeks… so, I took 2 days off and squatted this morning:

4/29/13- 7 weeks out- Intensification- Wave 1- DE sq&dl- s=0, m/p=suicidal

Rolled everything

Hip opener

Butt loads of ankle mobility (for my broken foot)

hammy flossing

RH-90lbsx50

Squats- 425 (65%) x10x2

DLs-525(65%)x10x1

Square Bar Pull-ups- dead hang- 5x5

Blast Strap Long Leverage Falls Outs- 5x12

COC#1x5, #2x3, #2.5x1, #3x1 (had to assist on L hand), close and holds- #3x2x10 seconds, Closes- #x2x10

Stretched. Cried. Ate some wings. Crying again. Floor press tomorrow. This is the way of things now.

Tuesday- 4/30/13- ME Bench- S=0, M/P= I am a leaf on the wind

Floor Press- up to 405x2 then 405 for 5 singles
Throat Press- up to 155x6
JM Press- up to 205x6

did you get my messages from saturday? i assumed something fucked up had to have happened. If not, my closest connection is in Baltimore area, I have no one in the crofton and edgewater area (at least who you wouldn’t absolutely hate). hahahaha, i need a good kissing partner when lauren is working. Where might this job opportunity exist? i know of a Parisi school down there (with a connection to that) and an API training facility on rt.3. or is there something else?

It’s at Parisi actually. haha. I’m not 100% sure yet. I have a phone interview coming up at some point this week.

Yea, as stupid and as “I’m a unique little snowflake” it sounds, I need a big change. I was looking at joining the special forces or moving to Alaska to work on an oil rig. Those may have been slight overreactions.

if it’s at Parisi, my buddy andrew who you’ve met several times and was best man at my wedding worked their for several months before moving away. He still has a good connection there if you want me to tell him to talk you up a bit just in case. when he was coaching football for St. Mary’s and South River, those programs were deeply connected seeing as it is across from South River. my high school coach also worked it for a while too.

Nice article, Storm. You hands look massive, does it help grip strength? Also, I am a big fan of suitcase deadlifts off the floor along with doing them out of the rack. I’ll have to start using some straps on them to give my grip a break/train obliques/‘core’ more. What do you think of front squats/high bar squats for increasing the deadlift? I’ve found for myself that my pull sucks even worse if I don’t include one or the other.

This thought process is literally the only reason I am still alive right now. Especially in light of recent events. I have taken quite a high amount of getting shitted all over recently. Well, no matter what changes, who comes and goes, and what random, totally senseless fucked up events life throws my way, there is always training. I have started to realize the only thing we have in this life is ourselves and the bodies we inhabit. That’s it. There is literally zero control over EVERYTHING else. People always say “don’t worry about the things you can’t control.” I am taking that to a different level. I am going to completely and wholeheartedly not give a fuck about everything I can’t control. I am just going to work hard and keep moving forward…

and train my fucking ass off.
