Good post. I’ve been changing my philosophy about training and life in general. I’ve, for the most part, stopped thinking in terms of dropping weight or gaining mass or trying to increase my 1 rep max or whatever. I now try to look at everything in one simple way, “is this awesome, and does it make me more awesome?” I now only train for one thing, to be awesome.

Because in truth, people know the real answer to that simple question in regard to most things, and given that answer, they know what they aught to do. A lot of people (myself included) use complicated rationalization disguising itself as science or training knowledge or some other BS. Making progress in the gym or in life is simple. People know they shouldn’t be eating crap, they know they should go load up a barbell and put in the work, and most of the “methodology” people cling to is a lame excuse. I’m not bashing on working smart and learning about and applying solid training principals, I’m bashing the people who think that it can replace the simple things.

After the last 4 days, I think my Backloading meals deserve some recognition…

Monday-12-19-11- Backload

6:30pm-
65g pro. shake
Giant Gatorade
12oz sirloin topped with blue cheese
2 cups of mashed potatos
1 lb of french fries topped with bacon & cheese
3 loafs of pumpernickel bread

8:00pm-
2 liter of coke… not diet.

I havent talked too much about this yet… its been 4 days, my calories have doubled, and I’ve lost 10lbs. Stupid-simple.
Can you explain back-loading a bit? I’ve read a little about it but don’t totally understand. Is it literally just holding off all carbs until later in the day/ using them pwo by working out later in the day?
I don’t want to go too much into detail because this is how Keifer makes his money but, thats the general idea. Buy the book. It’s worth every penny. I haven’t even been following it as super strict as he suggests and it works like crazy. Seriously, it is fucking nuts.
Hey Storm

Awesome job at the meet. I’ve been following along and I wanna thank you for the inspiration. What is the name of the book?

Carb Back Loading. You can get it at DangerouslyHardcore.com

That would be nice but all of my equipment is no too tight to use. I want to weigh 300lbs, win the deadlift comp. in the afternoon, then win the Sandow Trophy at the Arnold Classic later that night.

I hear you, man. Most people need to spend less time searching “diets for abz” and “secret russian training program” on Google and more time cooking steaks and loading plates on a fucking barbell.

Because you’ve no longer got the aspiration to be a fat bastard at 300 and I’m out of contact-sports forever, I’ll take over the quest lol

So you think the Carb Backloading book is worth the money?

I am kinda surprised you jumped on the Keifer train. Seems like everyone is loving him. Any specific reasons for the benefits of it over a traditional carb rotation like Shelby’s? I also generally have more energy without a lot of carbs as well, but never noticed any magical weight losses no matter where I put my carbs. The guy seems to be fairly well researched, but I am not sure if I can trust anyone whose website is “dangerouslyhardcore.com”. You gotta admit that name is retarded

Good. Someone must carry the torch.

… or eat it

Absolutely. If for no other reason, it is a really good read. I am a nerd though and had a pretty good understanding of all of the metabolism stuff in the first 100 pages or so. That helped. If you don’t care about any of that stuff, Keifer makes finding and implementing the diet very very simple.

He could call it “CryingRainbowNutrition.com” and I would still go there and read the stuff he writes. haha.

I’m not necessarily on the train yet. I have some questions about the diet itself but those will all be answered after trying it out for a while. It seems like everyone knows the general outline of the diet but there are smaller parts to it that make it or break it… like the amount of protein you need to eat throughout the day before you go bat-shit crazy with the back loading.

I worked with Shelby for 15 weeks last year and it worked very well. The major problem when I went to compete was me being fucking exhausted. At least 45mins of cardio everyday is mind numbing, eats hard earned muscle, and just makes me feel like a pussy in general. A big part of the book is Keifer begging the reader to not do cardio at all, sans the occasional HIIT session. This makes a whole lot more sense for a strength and power athlete.

There is nothing ‘magical’ about it. He researched HEAVILY. That’s the most interesting part to me. It is 100% science based. So far, I am very impressed at how well it is working and how awesome I feel when training.

Wednesday-12-21-11- Re

Tons of mob’n

Benched the 40lb dbs for 5 mins
100 face pulls w/ light band
50 pull aparts w/monster mini
1 arm, 10lb sledgehammer slam tabata
About 50 billion push downs with a m.mini

K so when you say for 5 minutes you mean straight? Must be what 200 reps? Feel da pump

Yep, straight through. And it was less like a ‘pump’ and more like vilolently seizure inducing.

So you kicked ass at a meet, said to hell with a deload and have continued to set PR’s…

Cliff Notes: destroy weights in the gym on a regular basis, include recovery WO’s and eat your face off.

Well done man.

Thats pretty much all there is to it. Not deloading is screwing me up. Just feeling sluggish and shitty but my workouts arent super stressful at the moment so hopefully that will stop soon. I would feel like shit anyway right now so I might as well feel like shit and try to move some weight around.
