Heavy Weights/Low Reps when Cutting?

I’ve heard that it’s best to lift heavy for low reps when cutting to preserve muscle. What about bodybuilding-style rep ranges though (8-12)? Is there any rationale behind doing 8-12 rep sets while cutting? Since you’re probly not gonna be building much muscle on a caloric deficit anyway

That’s bullshit.

Do the same thing to lose body fat that you did to gain that muscle in the first place. It anything do more reps for “conditioning” but muscle is built with heavy weights and constant stimulus.

I’ll reiterate this. Whatever you did to build the muscle should be used to preserve muscle on a cut. Since you are on a calorie deficit, your body won’t really build much but the stimulus will make your body hold on to more muscle.

What they said ^^^!

Your training should always provide a growth stimulus. Your diet will determine whether you are more on the muscle gain or the fat loss side of the equation.

If you are on a serious cut, your training sometimes has to change. Less energy, less work capacity, less recovery. If you reach that point, I prefer heavy over volume and volume over intensity.

Idk, I definitely changed my training with my recent prep. Definitely moved towards more high volume “pump” work if you will. I believe it made a huge difference in improving the glycogen capacity of my muscles as there was less than a 2lb drop from my 12 weeks out to my stage weight yet I looked drastically leaner and fuller.

To me this make sense during a cut and I am about to use sets of 10 for my cut. I will get back to you when I am done and let you know LOL
