Heavy Singles + Pump Work

Hey coach,
So basically my question is can i add supplemental pump work after i have done ramp to 1RM then 30 singles at 80% of ramp, something like triple drop sets or HDL/heavy 5s with the same movement i have done the heavy singles with, or should i stick with the original version of the program = ramp to 1RM + heavy singles, go home.My goal is maximum hypertrophy and strength.

Right now i am on week 2 of your layer system, which is ramp to 1rm 3 clusters with 90% of 1rm and 3 sets of HDL.My progress so far is pretty damn solid, but i am thinking of changing things a bit after i have completed the 4 full weeks.Any suggestions. Thanks

Hi,

ok so you’re 2 weeks in, that no time at all. i personally (among countless others) spent 3+ months solid on the layer system without stalling, continuously transforming the way i look, and the increasing the weight on the bar (high pull numbers almost tripled in around 4 months!).

the point is you are no where near a good point to deviate from the layer system.
at most, do the 4 week cycle, deload a week, then repeat with a different HDL method.

or you could alter your exercise choices? back squat in for deadsquat’s, low pulls in for high pulls etc.

at the end of the day it boils down to one question -if your current workout is bringing you closer to your goals… why change it?

i’m so guilty of changing my workout more frequently than my shirt, but by following CT’s plans 95% to the letter, i was able to make the quickest gains in my life

I agree 100%.Run with it and milk those gains for as long as possible.Christian puts out so many great training routines that it’s hard not to want to jump ship and try blending everything together.I’ve been guilty of this myself quite a few times as well.

Thanks for the replies guys, what can i say i am a stimulus addict . My bench went from 125kg to 130kg after the 1st week and military from 75 to 80kg at 70 kg bw and i still want to change the program:)

…then you have issues… just kidding! but seriously you’ve answered your own question!! you are getting gains so why change?

the quicker you change programs the more you short change yourself because you will run out of ‘tricks up you sleeve’ and will having nothing to shock your body with

I understand you. I’m the same way. When I figure something out and design a system that I know works, I want to work on something else. Great if you are a coach, bad if you are simply interested in making the biggest changes in your body.
