Heavy Singles for Muscle Mass

Hey CT,

thank you for all the great articles here on T-Nation…

I have a question about your article on building muscle mass with heavy singles, where you describe the load/volume/density- scheme…
when doing this program, how many exercises should I do in one workout?

I recently focused on just one lift a day, training everyday and I worked up to a 1RM, then took 80 % and did 30 singles as fast as possible…
but I have the worries, that there is too much time in between lifts to also make the proper progress over the long time.
so for example I was doing:
Monday: Squats
Tuesday: Dips
Wednesday: Chin-ups
Thursday: Shoulder Press
Friday: Hip Snatch
Saturday: Deadlifts
Sunday: Practice Muscle-ups,

It would be of great help to me, if you could give me your opinion about this program…

Thank you again for your inspiring work

Hi. I’m not CT but one main exercise is what you want to do. You could possibly do an Olympic lift or explosive exercise such as jump squats to activate the nervous system, just be sure to dominate the weight to fire your nervous system up rather than drain it. Think big barbell exercises for the main exercise, squats, deadlifts, SGHP, bench press, strict press, etc…

hey, thank you for your good advice
before i start my one big lift, i usually do some kind of jump series to get activated, i think that really helps…

You’re welcome… I do too, it’s a great way to start your workout.
