Heavy Metal Thread (and Associated Genres)

Depressing is what it is.

On the plus side, there is a lot of room for improvement.

I do like this guy’s attitude. I’ve watched more than just his cover videos, he has tutorials as well. He is a strong believer that talent is overrated. That it comes down to putting the work in.

While smoking a joint and taking pulls of whiskey.

Saw Heilung… mesmerizing

Good find. On a related note.

Judas Priest still keeping and defending the faith (as Halford would put it).

Stumbled across these lads from NZ, metal and traditional mauri vocals. Sensational.

Was tripping down a rabbit hole this weeked trying to find out why Chris Adler left LoG and ran into a pair of great YT interviews from Gibson and Drumeo respectively featuring Mark Morton (LoG guitarist) and Art Cruz (LoG drummer).

Needless to say, my affection for this band has only skyrocketed …

@unreal24278 I’m usually cranking bands like Testament, Overkill, Obituary, Sepultura, At the Gates—even some King Diamond and other classic stuff. But honestly, my top band right now has to be Parkway Drive.

Deftones drops their 10th album in a week or so. Cant wait. Like what I hear so far. The only thing I’ve noticed is the mix is off. Guitar is too loud and bass and vocals are washed out. Can’t all be Terry Date production I guess. It’s just 2 tracks though, I’ll hold my verdict until the whole album is released.

Actually one of my favourite songs by deftones is 7 words from their first album

Not the lyrics/subject matter, I dig the song structure and breakdown.

This was back when Deftones was just a nu metal band.

Slaughter of the soul is my favourite at the gates song.

I used to listen to Adrenaline on deadlift days. The punk breakdown/outro on “Birthmark” will get you in heavy lifting mindset.

Accept. This song really gets me going in the gym. Old school trash metal, before trash metal was even born.

fun fact

Queen arguably invented “thrash metal” with the song “stone cold crazy”

One thing I appreicate about metal is how niche it gets. For instance, 80’s DnD-themed doom metal.

Also speaking of niche, who would have thought nursery rhymes, metal, and bagpipes made sense.
