Not metal, but this is why I love Nuno(Extreme - the band that did More Than Words):
I think they can be classified that way ⊠their sound has âevolvedâ over the years
Itâs a classic for sure. If I were to pick âfavoriteâ song (so hard, theyâre such a solid band) Iâd go with Reverie/Harlequin Forest.
The only album by them I canât get into is Heritage ⊠I just donât find anything enjoyable on it but everything before/after is pretty damn solid. I get a bit of a Allman Brothers vibe on the song River off of Pale Communion.
EDIT: I was supposed to see them back in February before everything got locked down but Akerfeldt caught a cold and canceled with the promise to honor the tickets at a future date ⊠looking forward to that future date haha
nope, but I dig that song ⊠Iâll have to dig into them a bit thanks.
Theyâve got that âdjentâ or whatever kids these days call it kind of guitar sound but itâs not really djent. interesting stuff, Will check the rest out. Which albums do you recommend?
Re: Jordan Rudess.
I think I liked Dream Theatre a lot more before he joined. They had a different kind of sound and songs were less self-indulgent and the singing at least fit some of the songs. Now I just wish they could remove the singer from all their songs.
EDIT:
Itâs interesting cos I LOVED these bands but my Dad HATED them. He used to play the guitar and told me it was only because of drugs that they were able to play so well like Hendrix lol. He never forgave me for surpassing him in guitar skills after a couple of months lol.
We all know the the great songs from Led Zep and Deep Purple but Rainbow needs more exposure other than Temple of the King.
Yes, guys, thatâs Dio on vocals if youâve never heard Rainbow.
I love rainbow
I can play man on the silver mountain (guitar)
Donât think Hendrix was good due to drug use. If anything his penchant for barbiturates shouldâve slowed him down
Perhaps he garnered certain aspects of creativity through the use of illicit substances. It doesnât take a genius to figure out what âpurple hazeâ is all about.
Anyone into lamb of god??
Metal thread, youâre into bands like Motörhead right? Apparently Motörhead is actually slang for speed freak. The band is amazing, I dislike the nazi symbolism present though. I never understood the rationale behind Lemmies fascination with nazism.
Obsessively collecting SS memorabilia/wearing SS uniforms breaches âhistory enthusiastâ territory. Itâs in bad taste, esp if he wasnât Anti-Semitic. Naziâs more or less symbolise all that is evil in this world.
Of COURSE NOT. All the virtuosos in the world in any instrument would have mountains of coke like Al Pacino in Scarface in their dressing rooms pre-performance if this were the cases lol.
This chick should be juiced to the gills on roids and pumped up full of opiates and uppers if that were true:
Note: This is the Cziffra version. The difficulty level is officially classified as " complete and utter absurdity". (half joke)
But I agree thereâ lot of truth to this. Jimmy Page and others were obviously getting a lot less creative at improv when they got sober so thereâ probably a real correlation here. Maybe they were the ones with mountains of coke in their dressing rooms lol.
Off topic, but the human body can generally withstand quite a bit of abuse before breaking down
The pharmacokinetics of cocaine are fucking terrifying. The very unlucky ones will drop from an arrhythmia/MI (coronary vasospasm can occur independently of atherosclerosis being present) during first time usage.
Given the way cocaine wrecks havoc on the body (particuarly the cardiovascular system) Iâm suprised when I hear about these famous people using mountains of cocaine. Granted Slash (guns and roses) was diagnosed with dialated cardiomyopathy/congestive heart failure at age 35 secondary to his lifestyle.
Genetic variables play a large role, not all rockstars get away with it. Vinnie Paul died in his 50s secondary to complications associated with dialated cardiomyopathy (probably malignant arrhythmia). I wonder whether his was genetic (doubtful) or whether his lifestyle played a role.
Yeah I agree. Jim Morrisonâs heart just stopped at 30, remember?
Too much shit taken also adversely affects performance. You can clearly see when Jimmy Page was using too much during some of his really horrible performances in the 70s. His stuff when he was sober was just uninspired, not filled with wrong notes and rubbish playing.
Ooooooo, brutal death metal
You guys are on encyclopaedia mettalum. Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing.
Skid row! Classic
Solid band
Popular during the glam era alongside the likes of twisted sister, motley CrĂŒe etc
Glam was like the nu metal of the 80s
Yeah, love their singer but didnât like half of their songs thought they were a really tight band. Not like those bands which composed songs that you just waited for the solo cause the rest of the song sucked. Megadeth had both good riffs and solos but the singing was horrific.
yea. sometimes I wish we were still jamming out. Now I just jam once in a while with the drummer.
Same here lol. I used to jam with lots of different guys even played with one band that improvised death metal lol. They did have a really good singer, though.
I could never quite understand that either, other than the dramatic symbolism but Iâve never been much of a fashionista.
If I were going to choose something that represented my heritage or something it would likely be something akin to this:
Now weâre talking. If the bagpipes donât get you going, you may already be dead. And buried. I like lifting to this song.In general I tend to go for Electric blues, like RL Burnside, The Black Keys, Left Lane Cruiser, maybe some Rancid too. And everyone likes some Metallica when lifting, at least Master of Puppets. Pipes and Celtic are always good too though.
