Heavy Metal Thread (and Associated Genres)

I saw a magazine cover with 50 years of Judas Priest on the other day.

50 years

Yea man … on the same note, Maiden officially formed in '75; first album in '80 - still running around like a teenagers on stage

Makes you wonder how many of the current crop of ā€œtalentā€ will still be selling out arenas in 50 years time.

God I sound old.

Tune of the day

This song also functions as my alarm to wake me up in the morning. It’s loud enough, there’s no margin of error… it WILL wake me up!

They are considered ā€œmetalā€. They’re old school/ā€œhair metalā€. Hair metal is still metal, I equate it to the ā€œnu metalā€ of the 1980s. Albeit hair metal had more success than nu metal did as motley crue actually made it big/went mainstream.

Doom soundtrack is just the best thing when I do WODs or high intensity stuff

Oh boy.

I’m currently really into the following bands/a favorite song from each:

Lorna Shore; King Ov Deception
Probably my overall favorite band, dark and moody, blackened deathcore, but they fucking slam, and have a good groove.

Chelsea Grin; Limbs
When these guys took Lorna Shores vocalist I was upset, but it was one of the best moves for both bands, they both got a lot better. These guys have always slapped.

Make Them Suffer; Bones
These dudes are also super moody and doomy, but they have an amazing groove, really good lifting music for me.

Acrania; The Depopulation Program
Super political, and lyrically the most advanced band in deathcore in my opinion. Also, fucking heavy.

Infant Annihilator; Ov Sacrament and Sincest
Heaviest band in the genre, disgusting vocals, top tier instrumentals, lyrically the most offensive and disgusting in music. They run deathcore in my opinion.

Traitors; Ego Trip
Straight predictable heavy ass beatdown. They have a groove that almost reminds me of Pantera, and he has my favorite vocal style of all time. Easily my favorite gym music

The Devil Wears Prada, Wapakolypse
You’ll either love or hate the vocals. Easily to most diverse band I’ve ever heard. Every album sounds like a different band, some heavy as shit, some are truly emotionally heavy with clean vocals. One of the few bands I can shuffle their entire library and never get bored.

If it makes you feel better - I’ve been listening to Opeth for about 5 years or so now … they had already been putting out albums for 20 years when I ā€œdiscoveredā€ them…

I remember bands like Lamb of God and Sepultura when I was in high school.

I like Jinjer - really talented band - they’ve been putting out music for 11 years

Caligula’s Horse - 9 years

A lot of the bands that we’re talking about in here I’d like to think have some heavy staying power like Metallica (40 years??) and Maiden.

but yea, I AM old lol

Rammstein have been around for 26 years as well, with no lineup changes

Tune of the day

They’re also aussie

Fantastic band, came across them within one of my automatically generated playlists. ā€œSave yourselfā€ I believe the song was.

As to infant annihilator, isn’t the band somewhat self aware? Haven’t heard from them in a while, from what I recall they were tongue in cheek, darkly comical.

If you like infant annihilator you might also like ā€˜ingested’. A cross between deathcore and brutal/slam death metal

Yeah, I remember hearing Widower back in the day and got hooked on that whole album for months, just got back into them this year again and they’ve got like 4 albums now, good ass band.

IA is definitely super self aware. Which is what kills me, they’re literally a joke band, and they do it better (imo) than literally any band in the genre. But its less… tongue and cheek, and more complete edgy overkill. So it’s not like listening to Brojob where you’re just there for the punchline if that makes sense.

I havent heard these guys yet, it sounded pretty good, I’ll have to go down a few tracks for sure!

Also, idk what album you last heard, from AI but I love every album more. PLOP was good, but EGG was way better, and BOY is leagues above both.

However The Elysian Grandieval Galiarch has ā€œBehold The Kingdom of The Wretched Undyingā€ which is hands down their best single track. Its an 18 minute collab of pure chaos. And actually where I found the vocalist for Traitors.

I’m aware these are abbreviations for something else, but I would love a band much more if they actually named their albums ā€œPlopā€ and ā€œEggā€.

Lmao, their humor is definitely a bit subtle. I remember the epiphany I had on their second album.

The Elysian Grandieval Galliarch being EGG, I was like oh that’s silly

The I looked at the first album The Palpable Leprosy of Pollution and was just like, oh that’s silly AND intentional.

Then they released a single from their last album called Childchewer, then they released the album Battle Of Yaldaboth… and I was like… ā€œboyā€ …oh no

This was the last album I heard. The music video for decapitation fornication was blatantly comical. Can’t post it on here though, it’s fairly vacuous. I’d probably get reprimanded

Go give Motherless Miscarriage a watch, in a nice secluded room with no windows preferably. Same humor, but truly hair raising lol
