One of my first exposures to Mastodon’s Blood Mountain was b/c Josh Homme sang back up on Colony of Birchmen and I was (still am) a hyooge QOTSA / Kyuss fan.
I do love that album, and Crack the Skye is awesome too (really not too many albums of theirs I’m not a fan of, but those 2, to me, are top notch)
I’m sure most of you have heard this album, but if you haven’t, listen to the whole album, not a bad song on it. John Paul Jones of Led Zep on bass and Dave Grohl on drums with Homme singing and on guitar. Awesome.
They released a 4 song EP that was written solely by Brent Hinds in the last couple years titled “cold dark place” that is absolutely incredible. Other than that, their stuff turned pretty mainstream. It’s not bad, but it’s predictable.
Them crooked vultures are sick man. As is QOTSA. Joe rogan did an interview with Josh homme and he is a funny, very smart dude. Awesome guitarist and songwriter.
Are you from Quebec/are you of French Canadian descent? You guys have high prevalence of a neurodegenerative disorder practically unique to those of French Canadian descent.
Autosomal recessive spastic ataxia of ‘Charlevoix Saguenay’ (note the location, I think Quebec is located somewhere along these rivers). Prevalence is like 1 in 2000 in the French Canadian community with something like 1 in 24 being carriers of this disease. Prevalence elsewhere is VERY rare.
It’s ultimately lethal… someone should make a metal song about it.
Reminds me of the village of Vittangi in Sweden, where they’ve had around 40 cases of congenital insensitivity to pain (I think it’s even in just one extended family) when it’s extraordinarily rare everywhere else
Yea I’ve been a fan of Homme’s work since I heard about them in 2003(?) with their SFTD album. Saw them on that tour in SC, and few times after. Caught TCV back in '09 when they toured I think the day their album was officially released iirc. Sick show.
The Scorps may not be wholly “metal”, but the Comeblack album is essentially them re-recording their hits and covering songs they like in a much heavier tone. As a German-Austrian who grew up around thick accents, their music is some of the easiest for me to sing because my natural vowel sounds are really similar to Klaus.
It really freaked me out to find out they’ve been around since the late 60’s. I knew they got big in the mid-70’s, so figured that was when they started.
