Headphones While Training

While I enjoy having my headphones with me at the gym, I never run back to get them if I forgot them when I get to the gym. The gym plays mostly rock/metal from the 80’s and 90’s so I’m perfectly fine with that on most days.

That said, I use over-the-ear headphones without a bar connecting them. I like this particular brand of headphones so much that I’ve used them exclusively for almost 6 years, and almost cried when Radio Shack stopped carrying them (and promptly ordered two pairs online so that I had a backup set…)

They just slip over the ear. The only criticism I have for them is the wire is kinda long (my ipod can touch the ground hanging from the chord while I’m wearing the headphones at 6’ tall), but I’ve learned to deal with that. The part I really like about them is that it’s really easy to change the wire’s position. With a quick flip, the wire will be behind me for cleans and such. Then flip it back in front of me for bench pressing, etc.

Fuck earbuds, they’re uncomfortable.

I rarely bring my own music when in the gym and as such have little to say on the matter, but I have found that putting the wire up under my shirt instead of over it like normal solves this problem as well. It’s a bit of a hassle but I think overall it’s easier than switching back and forth from exercise to exercise.
See why couldn’t someone have posted this about 3 weeks ago?

Those of you who are looking for noise cancelling headphones, bear in mind that there are two kinds of noise cancelling: passive and active. What you are probably talking about it active noise cancelling: a little driver pushes negative waves, physically reducing the amplitude of exterior sound waves.

Many headphones claim “passive noise cancelling,” which is just creating a seal to block outside noise. Active noise cancellers generally have a larger profile since they have to contain more parts.

Just read your packaging/advertizements carefully.

I use ultimate ears superfi 3 earbuds. They are really good and I believe they have changed their cord design to be more durable.

I’ve also gone through two pairs of Sure e2c’s in the past and they were great as well.

I have these bluetooth headphones, got a great deal on them. They are amazing to workout with no wires getting in the way.

like these ?

i would think that they would fall out of your ears all the time !

I use bluetooth ear buds in the gym: www.jaybird.com

I think they work really well; the company guarantees for life to replace the headphones if they get damaged from sweat.

The only downside is that the rechargeable battery inside the earbuds can’t be replaced, which means you’ll have to either get creative with electronics or buy another pair in 2-3 years.

Usually would be out of my price range ($150-200), but I got a pair for my birthday.

Every couple of months i just pick up a new pair of nike running ear buds. They’re only 9 bucks and they wrap around your ear so they’ll never fall out. I get them at dicks, i think best buy has them for a dollar more.

Pretty good site: Best Headphones for 2022: Top Picks for All Styles - CNET

I’m going with the jaybird’s. Earbud, wrap-around so they don’t fall out, wireless, bluetooth. Works with ipod. Sound quality is not crazy though (heard it is lacking on bass). Kind of expensive though.

The others on the site just look too funky. I’d look like some cyborg.

i’ve ruined (shorted out?) about 4-5 pairs of headphones in the last two years alone. i stopped using headphones while i lift and i feel i am more in tune with my body, the weights and the feel of the exercises…which has resulted in much better workouts

Ditto which is why Don’t wear them because I enjoy tuning into myself and the world around me.
I just started bringing my mp3 player with me again and I’m having better workouts for it. Can cut out all the bs on the gym radio, the conversations around me, I have something to focus on during my rest periods and something to get me pumped right before i have a big lift
