im looking for some new headphones since my current ones are about to give out. i currently have the Etymotic ER-6 and they have served me well. when they are in, there is no outside sound that can get in and they isolate the music very well.
which headphones have you liked that you have used while training?
I have these Shure in-ear headphones kinda like the ones you have pictured. Amazing sound quality. Deep bass, great mid range, sharp highs. They block out almost ALL ambient noise so they’re great for when I don’t want to hear anyone and won’t be talking to anyone in the gym. They’re pricey, but they last a long time and are def worth the money if you’re into rich sound.
The only downside is that when people (inevitably) try and talk to me it’s a bitch to pull them out of my ears and then shove them back in. They came with a few different attachments and I use the memory foam ones, so they’re kind of a pain to put back in.
When I lift with a buddy or know that I’ll be talking/listening during my workout, I use the plain jane Ipod earbuds. The sound quality sucks, but they’re good for taking out and putting back in repeatedly.
how long have you had those shures? ive had mine for about 2 years and i feel that the cord is a little too thin for workouts. how have your’s held up at the gym?
Cool stuff about the Shures, I’ might grab one of those for Xmas. Does anyone know of noise-cancelling earbud headphones but that can still wrap-around the ear so they don’t fall out as easily during lifting?
I’ve had this set of Shures for about 6 months. My last set I had for probably 3 years. Had to replace them 'cuz I tossed my gym bag in my trunk and my chains (for pull-ups and stuff) crushed one of the earbuds/wire assemblies. The actual wire is pretty thick and I’m pretty sure it can take any kind of abuse a normal workout would provide.
Also, the memory foam attachment gets firmly planted in your ear. Not uncomfortably so, but stuck enough that it won’t just ‘fall’ out. You gotta watch the cable 'cuz if it gets hung up on something it’ll rip the bud out of your ear and it’s not pleasant.
I would sweat those right out of my ears. I have to use earphones with a springy band to keep the buds in or on my ears. I do love the in ear phones when I’m not sweating though.
I used to use the shure ones too, but I also got annoyed whenever I had to take them out and put them back in. You have squish up the memory foam to fit them into your ear canal, then hold them there for maybe 10 seconds while the foam slowly expands, trapping it in your ear. Unless you’re a great lip reader, you will probably end up popping them out and in once in a while - often to great annoyance.
Now I’ve been using the skullcandy brand in-ear headphones.
The sound quality is nearly that of the shures (they also have good base response), and they are much less expensive (if I’m remembering right what I paid for the shures). The cable is narrower and stronger at the same time. They use a rubber seal in your ear, instead of foam, so they pop in and out easier (the rubber ones that come with the shures didn’t fit my ear very well at all). They also come in some pretty cool designs, if you care about that (chrome, gold, red, purple, whatever you might want).

just make sure you buy them off skullcandys store
I bought them from another store and when i tried to use their garantee where you get half price off if you break them while using them ?
but the other store somehow misunderstood and kept sending me bills for those headphones even though cconfirming that i didnt need to pay someday i just got an letter from some inkasso bereau said i would be getting a law suit if i didnt pay 4x the price in 4 days. and i got the letter friday.
Does anyone else have problems with sweat getting into their headphones and short circuiting them? I’ve lost 3 good pairs this way and I’ve resorted to listening to whatever’s playing in the gym.

What store treated you so crappy?? Im looking to buy some Skull Candy for my brother in law… and he always break his earphones…
My Shure headphones rarely fall out because their behind the ear phones… EC2’s are the name. They have a pretty industrial sized cord (all others feel too thin) and have pretty good mids and highs. One thing i do like about the design is that you can literally step on them and they won’t break. I’ve accidentally stepped on them and thrown them around in my bag and they have very little to show for it.
These phones are also noise cancelling but i think that’s kind of an oxymoron for earbuds to be noise cancelling. Most of the time i only have one in to be able to talk/listen to cues while lifting, so i like the earbuds for that reason.
The only real issues with the buds is that they are IN ear. And if you’ve never used IN ear then they will probably take some getting used to.
they are the danish supplier and they helped my out a lot and got my the discounts on the products even though that i hadnt bought them from them an thus were not qualified !!
so please support them if you can. and i can recommend the full metal jacked earbuds !
just be preparred to ask you GF for some nail polish to seal the earbuds … they tend to short curcuit with the casing and can begin to give your ears electrical shock
^^ imagine how good the headphones is for me to still recommend them after that experience !?
